Could anyone explain if and how you can get units if you have some kind of internship during the school year? Do you have to do some kind of report? I'm an Econ major if that matters.

I’m doing the same thing for the spring semester by registering at a community college. You can also talk to your econ adviser and find someone willing to sponsor an intern course, but I think a community college is way less hassle.

Are you doing it because your internship requires school credit? I actually want units because my current classes put me at 12 units and I’d rather not add another class if I don’t have to. Or is there some way I can just take 12 units and not have it impact my financial aid?

Talk to your advisor and if the internship is econ related, your department. Most schools have this, generally the requirement is it be degree-related and you have to prepare a report on it. There may be other requirements or restrictions depending on your situation.
