How to request an alumni interview

I have posted this on numerous threads, but people keep asking me the question, so here is the answer in its own thread. If you have not been contacted for an alumni interview, you can request one by calling the Yale admissions office and asking for the name and telephone number of your Alumni Schools Committee director, the volunteer who coordinates interviews in your region. For EA applicants, I wouldn't call Yale until 11/20, for RD applicants, I would wait until 2/1.

When you call the ASC director, please be EXTREMELY polite. Do not sound aggravated or upset. These people are volunteers with busy work and family lives. ASC directors do not get the names of all applicants in their region the day or week after applications are due. Applicant names continue to stream in for weeks after the application deadline. Yale processes the names to the ASC directors as quickly as they can, but there are a lot of applicants and some things just aren't humanly possible.

If your ASC director can't offer you an interview, be understanding. In many areas the demand for alumni interviews exceeds the supply of alumni interviewers. Especially with EA, there is very little time to get interviews assigned and completed.

To any ASC directors out there, sorry if this thread ruins your carefully scripted way of assigning interviews.

Note: My advice has worked in the past. I don't know if the admissions office has changed its policy on giving out ASC directors' names and contact information this year.
