Any best way?

US Postal service -- save the money.

There's a little note on the IDOC document page that suggests "For fastest service, use US Postal Service Priority mail." That's what we'll be doing.

I just took it to the post office, had them weigh it, smack a stamp on it, and away it went. :)

Are the school deadlines (in my D's case, March 1) the date for receipt at the college from IDOC, or at collegeboard? We have finished our 2008 FIT, but are waiting for one final 1099, which we are promised "by February 28." So we haven't yet signed our returns. We know our estimates are very close, but really don't want to have to file an amended return for the few $$ we might be off. What's the best thing to do in this case?

"I just took it to the post office, had them weigh it, smack a stamp on it, and away it went."

Me too. How often does USPS lose mail? I didn't want to send by any method that required a signature. I've found in the past that signatures can really slow up the process and if the college board loses your docs, they are most likely to lose them after they've been delivered to the collegeboard.

I would just like to inform everyone that I used USPS and college board said it took about a week for the status to change. So be sure to send the stuff in well before the deadline.

I went to the post office and send priority mail. It gets there in 2 days and I have never had a problem in 4 years which I have had to send the paperwork.

A time line for our documents:
mailed (USPS 1st class): 2/17/09
Online IDOC status appeared as “received” 2/24/09
(Status page show they were received by IDOC on 2/19/09)

Is it possible to send via FedEx?

I ended up (wisely) using US Postal’s Express Mail, which will guarantee our tax return docs to arrive in time for a March 1st deadline.

But earlier, I did email IDOC’s Help Desk re: using FedEx or other overnight carrier services (couldn’t get thru on the phone - kept on getting a busy signal when their automated system transferred me to a live person!).

I finally got an answer back from IDOC today, which would’ve been too late to make our deadline had I waited! But, here’s IDOC’s response on if you can use FedEx or other overnight delivery services other than US Postal Service:

“Yes. If you would like to expedite the shipment of your required IDOC information you may send your information via priority mail through the U.S. Postal Service. Our Mt. Vernon, IL location is usually a two day service from most areas in the continental United States. You cannot send information via FedEx because they do not deliver to P.O. Boxes and there is no physical address for IDOC.”

No. The address is a PO box, which is US mail only. Express mail is the fastest you can send it.
