So for my ED school, the guy who wrote my supplementary rec emailed it to the admissions office. Should he email it to all my other RD schools or send it in the mail?

bump…anyone?

I’d help you, but I don’t know what you mean by supplementary rec. Are you referring to the standard teacher recommendations? Some schools only require the counselor, some request a counselor or teacher, some require a counselor and a teacher, and others require a counselor and two teachers.

Ideally, for any teachers providing you a recommendation, you would give them a filled out copy of the PDF found on commonapp.org/downloads called “Teacher Evaluations”. If this is sent in with his recommendation your college would also have your common app ID number and other info to help them associate this rec with your application. If this did not happen, you can email admissions and tell them the teacher name and your common app ID number to help them connect it up.

If this teacher’s rec should also go to other schools, then you should ask him to copy/paste this into the common app email he’ll get, which happens when you officially invite him as a recommender from the commonapp.org too.

By supplementary rec I mean one you’d get from someone outside academics, like a coach or, in my case, the supervisor of the program I volunteer for. My question is if it matters whether he emails it or sends it by mail to an admissions office.

bumpppppppp again

It varies by school, so first look at the college websites and see if they have specific instructions.

If not, then usually you want them to use company stationary if possible, mark as ‘supplemental’ so it doesn’t get confused with one of your required teacher LORs, and have your full name, school, DOB, etc. so that the letter can be connected with your application. I think Y has a pretty good description of important things to include (at the very bottom):
