I’m going to schedule an alum interview in a couple of months. (btw does anyone know how that works if you don’t live in a huge city? I don’t live in the boonies or anything, but I feel like there’s not many Bates alums in my area. Would they expect you to drive like 4 hours or something for an interview?) I can’t visit because my parents aren’t willing to make the drive across the country because they’re not particularly fond of LACs. I can’t apply ED because we have messy finances and I need to be able to compare rates at different schools. I’m subscribed to their mailing list already. I thought I would write a fantastic supplement but they removed that requirement this past app cycle. I feel like this is kind of a dumb question and there’s something obvious I’m missing but whatever.
Schedule an alumni interview sooner rather than later. Contact your regional AO and tell them what you’ve said here. You have no way to visit, but you are wondering if a Skype. Interview is possible if no alum is in your area. They understand that not everyone can visit. Open all emails they send you, and make comments on their YouTube videos, or Instagram, or whatever it is.
My Batesie was not able to visit Bates either, she didn’t set foot on campus until after her admittance and financial aid numbers looked favorable. I remember her Skyping a couple of interviews with LACs. Our family was not in a position to do ED in the admissions process either. I don’t think these things are as much of a hindrance as you may think.
