I need to switch. Roommate annoying as **** I'm sick of telling him to turn down his annoying music. Both of them messy as pigs. clothes everywhere. you literally can't walk anywhere inside the room without stepping on something. room smells like a mixture of weed and clothes that haven't been washed... room is also infested with fruitflies. occasional cockroaches.

So, I want to know what are my options. Anyone with advice?

room switches aren't going to be very quick, if they happen at all. seriously, my friend last year had two roomies who were always going at each other's throats (mostly verbally, but...) and they were always trying to drag my friend into it. like, "doesn't he always do such and such" etc. he hated it. but even though roomies were threatened with being kicked out, and placed on 2-week behavior contract, no one ended up moving anywhere.

i think that in addition to talking to your RA (make sure it isn't a *****-out session or your RA will try to work on getting the three of you to "work out your differences"... yah... anyway, try finding someone to switch rooms with. last year that could have been an option for me, if i had realized it sooner lol... but by spring quarter no one really wanted to switch.

Isn't there an "open transfer period"? How does that work? I've heard that talking to the RA/RD won't help. Actually, I can pretty much predict what they're going to tell me anyways... I recall hearing somewhere that you can go to the housing administration and requesting a switch or something? I dont' remember.

pitueoe- I live in Hitch, which rhymes with what I feel it is.

Like I always respond when someone asks about room switching:

Go to the housing office first, check if there are any available rooms. You need to have a form signed by the RD. Once you have it signed, you can change rooms very easily, as long as there is vacancy.

If you really want to move talking with the RA doesn't really help, they just try to make you talk it out with your roommates, which drove me absolutely crazy when I tried to move out.

^ Yeah that's what I remember hearing. Where's the housing office? The one next to Sproul Hall? Or the red building further down? (I think that's the ORL though)

Yes, the housing office is next to Sproul. They're pretty nice about it, they don't ask questions, they just look up the empty rooms for you when you decide what kind of building you want to live in.

Well, if I roomed with you, I certainly wouldn't mind letting in or harvesting the occasional fruit-fly or so... or, perhaps, freshly-minted bacons and pig fetuses, n'est-ce pas?
