You can skip telling her and she can find out when you do not actually go to med school. If you think she is going to give you too hard of a time. Then, if you have a good job, or offers to grad school, you can put that as the positive spin on it then. (((hugs)))

At your age, it is highly likely that you will change your mind often as events like courses and activities affect the way you perceive the slate of academia you need to take for various disciplines. Nothing wrong with keeping the medical field open as an option. To become a doctor does not mean having to be a science major. Out of all of the courses you take in college, I believe the only ones required for med school in the sciences are Chem, O-Chem, Physics, Bio with labs. Considering you will be taking 4-5 courses each term, that is hardly daunting, especially when will likely need a couple of science courses to graduate anyways.

I wouldn’t have the conversation with Mom about med school at all. But you should think about whether you want to study engineering in college. You don’t have to decide whether to apply to med school until senior year of college, but you have to decide whether to be an engineer when you are applying to college, in a lot of cases, and certainly before you register for classes freshman year.
