Hi i was wondering how hard is it to get in as a transfer from Vtech. I would like to know a good GPA to have and other stats i should have. i wanted to go to UVA from the start but i knew my grades in high school weren't good enough (i was one of those slackers who put in almost no effort toward school but still got Cs, Bs, or As, depending on how much work was required to get a good grade). i know UVA probably doesnt want people like me but i am really willing to change to get into UVA
currently my GPA is 2.3 first semester =*( but i know i can pick it up if i try

Damn, dude... 2.3? Do you want to apply for Fall 09? I'm applying as a transfer for Fall 09 with a 3.80 GPA in my 1st semester and shooting for a 4.0 this Spring semester. That would equal into a 3.90. Also, an average 3.4/3.5 GPA in HS, and I doubt I'll get in....

yea i realize that UVA is not going to be easy but i am currently trying for straight As and as of currently im on the right track for this semester and i realize 2.3 is really really bad and it will take a lot to get in but im probably not going to able to raise it high enough until maybe 2010 to transfer
also i was wondering if i will need some of my high school stuff like SATs ACTs or GPA

Yeah, they look at your high school stats 50/50 if you have completed less than 30 something credits. A admissions officer told me that on the phone. If you have more than 30, then they don't pay much or any attention to high school stats. If you pull a 4.0 for the next 3 semesters, then you would have a 3.5 something. Just try your best man.

Speaking from personal experience, a lot of colleges won't even consider you if you're transferring with under a 3.0, and UVA is much harder than most. Best of luck, though! If you want it, you can do it.

heh well i think my SAT and ACT scores will help but not my GPA wont help i dont think although it wasnt that bad 3.3ish? but if i can get 4.0 for 3 semesters ill have over 30 credits so i just need to try my best and hope

I also have another question. If i dont make it for my 3rd year is it even worth it to transfer as a fourth year student or just wait for grad school

hey king, you dont need to pull a 4.0 or even a 3.8, i transferred with a 3.75 first semester and 3.6 second semester from mary washington, (3.68 overall) and thats with a 3.5 in highschool. i even know somebody that transferred with a 3.5. so instead of working your ass off to get that 4.0, you should go out and have fun, because uva ****ing throws away your other colleges grades. no reason to work that hard for nothing.

now foggy: you should just get really good grades for the next three semesters and you will be fine. even though you got that 2.3, they will see that you changed your work ethic and will not fault you for that first semester. alot of people do really bad their first semester its no big deal. just show them you are ready to work and honestly they will ignore that. oh and aim for transferring second year, i dont think you can even trasnfer 3rd/4th year. and if you could, it wouldnt be worth it anyway.
