How will a "C" hurt my chances?

I'm a freshman at Nichols College. I really want to go to Northeastern University. My first semester I got a 3.679 GPA. Northeastern wants a mid-term grade report from me. However, I have a pretty bad grade in Microeconomics (should be around a C). The C is only based on one test and that's an estimate considering he said he would curve it.
Here are my estimated grades:
Microeconomics: C
Macroeconomics: B+/B
Political Economy: B+
Statistics: A-
History: A-

some of those are more up in the air than others but I'm pretty worried about the Microeconomics grade. Please, tell me that that C won't result in a decline!

I can get those grades up but I feel rushed. I’m not sure how high I can get my Microeconomics grade up but Macroeconomics I bet I can get to an A-, Political Economy to an A, Stats to an A and History to an A as well (by the end of the semester, which is when a different college of mine wants grades). I feel as though the Microeconomics is a huge asterisk on my file!

Bump…
I’m starting to fill out the mid-term grade report. All I have down currently is Macroeconomics, which is a B+.

It won’t kill you. Colleges know these are just very early predictions and that your grade could (and based on your record probably will) be much higher by the end of the semester.

If you want to hedge your bets a little, ask the prof. to write something along the lines of “Grade based on only one test.” If he’s a nice guy, he might even add something extra like “grade expected to be higher by end of semester.”

Northeastern? Your going to get in 100% chance, 3.6 is far above their average transfer gpa, unless you get below a 3.0 this semester, your in.

HealinOTheNation, Really?! My chances are that high? So far I have got 3 out of 5 grades on my mid-term grade report: B+ in Macroeconomics, A- World Civilizations II, and an A- in Political Economy. I know for a fact I have an A- in Statistics I too but I just haven’t received his signature yet.

bump… is anybody else as sure of my acceptance as HealinOTheNation?

it is definetely not 100%, more like 80%, b/c Nichols is not a very good school

good luck

it is not that nichols is not a very good school. however, it is not a very selective school. maybe that is the way you meant it.
i did get my professor to write, “only one test has been administered” under my microeconomics grade.
So generally speaking, 3 A-, 1 B+ and 1 C is good enough for Northeastern’s mid-term grade report

it rivals a community college - that is what I meant

I don’t think you need to send in a mid-term grade report. I think those are for freshmen applicants only.

Northeastern specifically says on their website that they require the mid-term grade report for transfers

I stand by what I said before, 100% chance, you will have a 3.7+, thats alot better than northeasterns average transfer GPA I bet.

Wait just one C?? I have a friend who got in there last spring. His Gpa was about a 3.0 in college, with a couple of C’s in his Major classes. He even got scholarship money. Don’t see why that would change a year later.

He was a Computer Science major btw.

Does the college you’re transfering FROM really make that much of a difference? Is level of reputation/prestige, etc. factored significantly in the application as a whole, and taken into consideration?

1.) of course
2.) prestige usually goes hand in hand with selectivity

Most schools if not all do not reject a candidate for its school. Likewise MIT also accept students from horrible high schools.

the average northeastern accepted gpa is 3.24 and i have a 3.51 if you count my mid-term grade report equally as last semester. without that c, i have a 3.68, which is almost identical to my first semester. i did have the professor who gave me a c write that only 1 test has been administered.

undeadpaladin, that story gives me hope! i hope economics isn’t too selective for me! I would be so happy if they give me scholarship but I’m not banking on it.
would you say arts and sciences is easier than college of business?

bump… opinions anybody?

If you are asking if you should apply to the College of Arts and Sciences for better chances then the Biz School, I would say dont bother - you have a VERY good chance of getting in-

good luck
