How will writing section be treated in 07?

Can't find the earlier thread on this subject. If you have information on how specific schools, especially the Ivies and elites, are treating the writing section for the class of 07, please provide.

bump, bump, bump

I am not completely sure about this but I think there are some colleges that take your writing scores into consideration. However, at the same time, there are colleges that treat the writing section as a burden and will only total your math and verbal scores (so the weighted total would be 2400-800=1600).

Good luck

Harvard and Penn. reps stated at an informational meeting that they definitely are giving writing the same weight as the other sections. Georgetown and Duke reps stated that the jury was still out. This was a month ago.

I believe most top colleges will be giving the writing section as much weight as the other sections. It is similar to the old SAT II Writing test that most required applicants to take.

its interesting cause someone else who attended one of the hpdg meetings said they all were treating it as less weighty than the other 2 sections. but who knows

I know MIT had said they are giving the writing two years, so 06, 07, so it'll start counting 08

Also Columbia is not counting the writing, except as an SAT II

Can we see the source?

Does anyone know if colleges see your writing subscores (essay, multiple choice). By the way, I am desperately hoping they don't use writing as i got 800 CR 740 Math and 680 Writing

It was at the hpdg mtg in Fairfax County (Tysons). The question was directly put to the admissions reps and each rep answered in turn. Harvard and Penn didn't elaborate, just said they would treat it equally with the other sections, especially since they had been requiring the SAT II Writing already.

This is a parent writing -- but I was there with my daughter.

For me, it'd be nice if they looked because it's so easy.

PLEASE someone answer me! Do colleges see your writing subscores (essay score and multiple choice score).

For my school yes- on my bro's transcript it has the break down.

The score report should be the same across all schools, or am I wrong?

Well my brother's highschool transcript had it (and the school gets its info from CB), so I would think it does show up.

Gosh, I really they weight the same as the other two sections...

in a harvard info session, they said they would count it just as much because harvard is seen as somewhat of a trendsetter in college admissions

I think that they don't want to start counting the writing section until they see how students' verbal scores correlate to it. They don't want to just compare a 1750 to a 1080 or something along those lines during admissions. The colleges want a firm grasp of what a good score truly is, and they also want to know who is most likely to attain these scores.
