How would you describe Case Western?

How would you describe both the school itself, and the students going there?

School: Geeky but trying to become less geeky, it's a great place, lots of good classes and profs with the inevitable stress that comes from going to a school that you will learn at
Students: Proud geeks or those trying to abandon their geekiness (mostly engineers)
or there are the liberal arts majors who are somewhat less geeky and a bit more social...good people all around

Case has an undergraduate admissions blog on line:

<a href="http://blog.case.edu/admission/%5B/url%5D">http://blog.case.edu/admission/</a></p>

Case is really not a fun place, if you want to have weekends where there is nothing to do, or to be bombarded by nerds who's best freind is a textbook, then come here. If your a girl who wants a lot of attention from geeky, immature and pathetic dudes, come here, you will develop an ego so huge, its unbelievable.

Anyone who says this is a great school from a social standpoint, is either from the corn fields of Ohio and grew up in a school of 15 people, or basically had a sheltered high school life, and has just learned the meaning of freedom. I respect this, but this just isnt the ideal college experience for me, the reputation/classes are not worth it and you'll find most people who agree trying to transfer (like myself)

wow someone is pretty miserable.

wow really? i was excited but now idk...

This is all from what i've heard about Case, since i don't actually attend yet:

Case can become the type of school that byronster described if you let it. That being, if you wait for the parties/social activities to pop up before you. You have to go looking for it at this school, and you have to be willing to accept that there are many people who's best friends are their textbooks.

Many people have stated on these forums that Case western isn't a school for everyone, and it seems like it's very true. If you can't accept the responsibility for creating your fun times, then you're not going to have any...and don't get yourself in Smith just as an added precaution ;-)

Jakem, you are very right, but I will admit a bit wrong, in that parties/social lives do happen, and you do have to search for them, but this doesnt necessarily mean you'll always find something. Often times you will find the campus totally dead on weekends, and sitting around the dorms will get boring.

At the same time, I'm hopeful that your class will bring a turn around, as my class did in the previous year. We partied more, had better looking girls, and apparantly was more of a college like atmosphere according to many upperclassman. Obviously these things have no meaning to some people, while others enjoy to have fun while working hard at the same time.
