There you have it guys, if you want to start a great career at “Art is Melodic” inc, don’t apply to Berkeley or UCLA, attend UC Merced instead.

I would think that Merced is trying really hard to gain a good reputation right now. If they get one, it bodes well not just for them but for you.

I think the demographics and location play a much bigger role in why people dislike the school than anything else lol.

@ ParAlum, UC Merced is accredited, I talked with their representatives the other day and they are for sure accredited by WASC, Merced has plenty of potential and I assume will be like a “mini UC Davis” because they are aspiring to build a Medical school and are very agriculturally, and not to mention “green” based as well.

Also, everyone I met at UCM was really nice! and the campus felt really safe and close knit.

^^
To clarify, UC Merced has only provisional accreditation from WASC. this was required by the state to allow students to enroll. I assume that UC Merced will continue to develop and expand its already outstanding programs and will obtain final accreditation. As stated above (and in note below) the early reports are highly positive.

More on the accreditation progress from the UC Merced website:
UC Merced has been granted Candidacy by our regional accreditation association, the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). We are now working to fulfill the requirements for Initial Accreditation.

On January 12, 2010, UC Merced received the Report of the WASC Visiting Team regarding the Capacity and Preparatory Review, the second step in the Initial Accreditation process.

On February 17, 2010, the WASC Accreditation Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities issued its findings regarding UC Merced’s fulfillment of the Commission’s expectations under the Core Commitment to Institutional Capacity. The WASC Commission’s Action letter dated March 3, 2010 can be found here. With these positive findings, UC Merced will move forward with the Educational Effectiveness Review as scheduled.

My top three for my major would be:
- Berkeley
- UCLA
- UCI

Out of those, I only applied to UCLA though. I don’t want to move to Irvine and my boyfriend would not move to Berkeley. UCLA it is!

guys I just got in berk today, and also ucla a week ago. I am so happy to get in both but now I’m very struggled to decide which should I go to. My major is applied math and seems ucla’s applied math program ranks higher than ucb’s. And the courses for ucb’s applied math major are not really “applied.” But berk has higher prestige… Hard to make choice between these two…Any advices? thx=)

^ I feel your pain. I feel like I should never have applied to CAl because I had my whole undergrad life set before I opened Pandora’s box

1.Cal (lol)
2.UCLA
3.UCD/UCSD
4.UCSB/UCI
5.UCSC
6.UCR
7.UCM

Look at the actual programs and coursework. Look at the faculty research (you may want to work with some of them). See which program is more interesting. You’re most likely to excel in the program that interests you more.
