Howard University Class of 2020!

Our son was going to visit a few weeks ago, but unfortunately the Pope’s visit had buses running behind schedule and he didn’t make it. We’re close by, so he should make it down soon. He has no problem being one of s few white students, but I don’t think he’s too sure about staying so close to home. He also needs to figure out if the interdisciplinary major he’d like to do (film studies and journalism with a math minor) is doable.

We plan to attend the Fall Open house next Saturday. Hoping we can get a look at the fine arts department during our tour.

@mtjones1, our son would probably go to the fall open house if he were in town. He’s in Philadelphia visiting Temple the 23-24.

@mstomper It’s such a hectic time. We’re visiting Fordham this weekend, then Howard next. My husband attends Temple’s grad school and I have a lot of family members that graduated from there.

Just sent in my application today. #:-S

@Chopinspiano I wish I were done with my application, that must be such a nice feeling! What major are you applying to?

@starburst98 I’m doing Biology.

Just a heads up. I didn’t get an email that they have received my application until today.

Okay. Thanks!

I sent in my application on Thursday but still haven’t gotten a confirmation email from Howard yet. How long has it taken you guys to get confirmation emails?

@simplejoy a week. Make sure you call sometime this week to make sure that they have received everything.

Has anyone else heard or read that Howard has revised its criteria upward for the HUFS merit scholarships??

@umsigmadom Source?

@umsigmadom ugh that sucks. They should have put it on the website. Everyone should look at that and check with the admissions office since it has changed if any of yall have questions.

@chopinspiano yes it is definitely terrible news as my son had qualified under the recent prior criteria. He’s not going to be too happy with having to take the ACT again, but that’s what is going to have to happen.

Yeah that sucks! My daughter just made the ACT score for Tier IV. However we have been on the grind applying for outside scholarships anyway. If you haven’t already register on the UNCF website. They provide info on more than UNCF scholarships. Also register for College Greenlight, FastWeb or Cappex to get scholarship information. Check out the Thurgood Marshall Fund too.

@mtjones1 my parents are upset that the fees are no longer considered for my Tier. It also sucks because my act score is a point below get room, board, tuition, book voucher, and fees.

@Chopinspiano I’m in the same boat, I took the SAT three times and my superscore is 40 points beneath the requirements for tuition, fees, room, board, and voucher. For a second I was considering studying intensively for the ACT, but I don’t think I would do that well with only a month’s prep. It’s really a shame that they’re changing scholarships like this, I was so upset when I found out.

Terrible timing! I hope it was not done purposefully.
