How's Emory's film studies major?

Is it any good?

I really don’t know, but you need to first identify what you want to get out of that particular major. Do you want to become a movie critic? Do you want to produce movies? Do you want to direct? Or, do you love cinema and want a Liberal Arts education?

Look at that film studies’ grads and find out what they are doing. If Emory grads have a good track record, in the fields that interest you, then you will have your answer.

In terms of film criticism and analysis, the department is very good. If you want to learn to produce films, however, it may not be what you are looking for. The department focuses more on theory than on practice. Having said that, I know a few recent graduates who have moved on to graduate school at UCLA’s film school so it would seem as though the department does a good job preparing its students for either side of the discipline.

Just know that Emory’s film studies major is heavily focused on analysis and criticism, NOT production/directing/writing. If you’re interested in filmmaking go to NYU/UCLA/USC.
