I am thinking of writing my essay based off the fact that I have had the same group of five friends since elementary school. We have not once had any drama, fights, etc. and support each other 100% and accept each other for who we are. I want to talk about how each one of my friends has taught me a different thing...one is very outgoing and has given me the courage to come out of my shell, one is daring and adventurous and I've now become more adventurous etc. I will definitely talk more about myself but within the context of my close friendship with these girls. In an age where there is a lot of back stabbing and competition, I think this is a unique situation and could be a decent essay. Would like some opinions please!

I think that’s a very unique idea. Go for it! I often tell students that you should always write about something your passionate about. If this topic means something for you, there is no reason you shouldn’t try. Good luck!

Remember this is for your college admissions review, not a usual hs writing assignment. And remember it needs a balance of “show, not tell.” Think about what you need to show those adcoms. From your description, maybe it will show grounding and appreciation- but is that enough? As usual, it would help to know what tier of colleges.

This is an interesting topic, and you can certainly give it a shot. However this could easily turn into a regurgitation of memories only you can understand or dwelling on descriptions of your friends instead of your own intellectual development.

Try writing a rough draft and see if it there is a coherent idea.
