HS Transcript before Jan 15 Fin Aid Deadline!

I haven't sent in my transcript yet because of winter break, but I go back to school tomorrow and am sending it in right away. However, I know for ED 2 applicants you should have your FAFSA in by Jan 15. It's not letting me access the last part of the application until NYU receives my transcript and I don't think that it will get their before the 15th because usually transcripts take 2-3 weeks! What do I do?! :(

nyuhopeful2011,

I would contact the Admissions Office and let them know of your dilemma. Ask them if you will be penalized if you cannot submit the FAFSA by 1/15/11 because of the inaccessibility of the last part of the application due to the likely problem of getting the transcript to NYU by 1/15. My thinking on this is that it should not be a problem if it is a matter of a few days’ lateness and if you contact NYU to get their consent directly for a grace period in completing the FAFSA. Who knows, your transcript might get there earlier than expected. That would be ideal.

Anyway, contact Admissions for their feedback directly and to inform them of the likely problem with timeliness in submitting your FAFSA. In an earlier thread, I posted a link for the Admissions Counselors by location. Make sure the AC puts this info into your file.

Thank you. Ok, I got a little mixed up with my question because my parents had told me what happened but I figured it out and here is the problem. I went onto the NYU financial aid website and it said this:
In addition to the FAFSA and TAP application, Freshman Early Decision applicants who wish to be considered for need-based financial aid must also first submit the Early Decision Financial Aid Application after completing their Early Decision Admissions Application (see Undergraduate Admissions). The Early Decision Financial Aid Application must be submitted no later than November 15th for Early Decision I, and no later than January 15th for Early Decision II (see Financial Aid Application Deadlines at upper right). For access to the Early Decision Financial Aid Application, log into NYU Home, and then log into Albert. The link to the application is located in the Applicant Portal, under the “Financial Aid” menu.

I am an ED applicant, however, I logged onto Albert and nothing is there regarding the early decision financial aid application! And it’s due in 12 days so I am very worried! The NYU offices open tomorrow, so I will be sure to call, but would you have any reason for why it’s not showing up for me? Is it because they haven’t received my transcript yet?

nyuhopeful,

You have 12 days. That should not be a problem if you can call tomorrow when the NYU offices re-open. I am sure they can straighten it out in a relatively short time, in terms of making sure you have access to the ED Financial Aid Application link.

In the meantime, just make sure your parents have taxes for 2010 (or estimates if 2010 taxes are not done). The FAFSA is a relatively easy and straight forward form to fill out, in contrast to the CSS profile (yuck for the latter one. :frowning: ).

Anyway, your time should be OK, if you get in touch with NYU ASAP about the missing link. GLTY.

Thanks for the reassurance! I called today and they said they are updating their website on Friday…so hopefully it will be there when I login on Friday! And also, I don’t have to fill out a CSS profile for NYU, do I?

No. The CSS profile is not required for NYU. Just the FAFSA and tax documents when they become available. Do estimate first for the FAFSA if 2010 taxes are not done yet.
