So guys, USM was one of the colleges I was planning on attending, but I decided to double check all my college applications to see if they were all correct yesterday, and thank goodness I did! Anyways, while I was doing my college application a few weeks ago, my computer glitched out on me, and to my surprise it actually looked like the information on my college application hadn’t changed, but I found out yesterday I was wrong. Apparently, It said that I was born in the US, but I was actually born in the Philippines. Everything else was correct, though. I emailed the college today but there wasnt any reply yet. I really want to change it as soon as possible!! My question is: Am i able to change my country of birth? Do you think it’s too late for me to ask? Deadlines aren’t until this June though…
I would call the admissions office and just talk to someone about it. I’ve been dealing with some application issues myself lately and have called a couple of colleges both big and small and have had absolutely no problem getting an admissions counselor on the phone.
Thank you for replying!! Would e-mailing be alright, or do I actually have to call them?
Calling seems more sincere, and you have more control over it.
If you call, somebody picks up and you can explain your situation on the spot, while for email, you might have to send a couple of emails to get everything straightened out, which wastes a ton of time.
If you don’t hear back from your email after a couple more working days, phone them. They can change it.
This really isn’t a big deal at all. And I agree with intparent - they are swamped right now, so give them a few days to reply to your email. If you think this is a ‘huge’ mistake, you are losing your sense of perspective and need to take some deep breaths…
I’d email. And I agree that it doesn’t matter for admission at all.
Thanks for all the comments guys!! I really do feel a lot better!
The reason I was so worried was because I remember hearing stories of people getting rejected, expelled, and even blacklisted from colleges for allegedly “falsifying” data, and I didn’t want them to think I was that kind of person because of a computer mistake…
As long as you make an effort to clear it up, you should be fine. I submitted a resume with a few mistakes, and the program wouldn’t allow me to delete it, so I just re-submitted the corrected version and e-mailed the Adcom to let them know. It’ll be fine, don’t worry.
This may be redundant, but I hope everyone here knows the application with the error was sent to USM three weeks ago. Do you think they have already seen it by now?
If you are a US Citizen it won’t make much of a difference.
Awesome!! I am very much a US citizen btw!
