Human Ecology Info Session

My daughter is going in couple of days, and I was wondering if parents attend these info sessions as well. I know they have discussions with prospective students, and that these information sessions are conversational, and I'm sure my daughter would be more relaxed without me there. I just don't want her to be the only one without a parent. :)

Any information/insight regarding Human Ec info sessions would be most appreciated! Thanks!

A lot of parents go to the sessions. I couldn’t tell you about Human Ecology, though. I only went to a CALS session last year.

I can’t speak specifically about the HumEc session either (went to the CAS one), but in general, parents do attend the info sessions when their kids are visiting colleges. This didn’t stop prospective students from asking questions, although parents seemed to ask more of them.

D and I just attended CALS info session yesterday.

Great session with only 7 or 8 students and approximately one parent each. Did not notice anyone alone.

Parents ask the most questions but a student who has a specific questions about Human Ecology will definitely stand out and please the presenter who several times asked “Any STUDENTS with questions?”…ha ha

There was a student from the business school there also who was happy to answer questions.

Thanks for the replies, everyone! I actually have a daughter in the Hotel School already, and i did attend the info session with her, as did other parents. She had an interview as well, which I obviously did not attend.

The Human Ec info session seems to be a combination info session/group interview, so that’s what has me a little confused about attending.

I went to the info session for HumEc during Cornell Days.

We met in the office at MVR and then we walked to Appel to have lunch. I didn’t think there would be parents there, so I told my parents to stay behind. Well, every other kid there had at least one parent with them.

The plus I guess was that my parents stayed at MVR the whole time and were able to spend the entire time talking to the director in the office. So, they got the questions answered they wanted answered and I got mine answered as well.

This didn’t seem like an interview at all, but then again I was already accepted by the time cornell days rolled around so maybe it is different type of session.

Yeah…sorry for my ignorant reply before.

My D has informed me that Human Ecology is not part of CALS.

Duh.

(p.s. It’s a proud moment when your kid owns you on college admissions info.)

Last summer, d and i attended an info session at HumEc. We were the ONLY people there. A little anxiety-producing as she was not really prepared to talk about the program and her interests but the presenter was marvelous - and D got quite a few hints as to how to present her application. (She starts in 3 weeks! Yikes!!)
