human resource management or econ?

i’m set on being a double major–that’s for sure. i’m going to double major in english and human resource management. but lately i’ve also been considering economics instead because of how much i loved macro econ & am loving micro econ right now. the only thing that held me back from initially choosing econ is that i’ve heard that if i’m not a math-oriented person, i won’t like it. i’m a person who is completely turned off from stem majors in general, and that’s why i chose business administration // human resource management. i like solving problems. what are some pros and cons of both working in human resources and economics? information about each would also be helpful. thanks

It’s generally true that if you don’t like math you won’t do well or go very far in economics. Economics is a quantitatively oriented field. That said, I encourage you to try it first. The math you do in economics (and in college in general) is quite different from the way that you learn it in high school; you may find that the applied math and statistics you need from economics is better-suited for your interests than the sort of more abstract concepts you learn in high school.

You can also work in HR even if you major in economics, btw. Most people who work in HR didn’t study HR in college, because most colleges don’t have HR management majors.

HR management is a good major, too, though. It’s especially good to pair with a major like English if you have direct professional goals.
