Hunter College - Bang for the buck?

I'm curious as to just how valuable education is at CUNY Hunter. Obviously, I want to go to a good school, but for the same reasons as everybody else, I'm having trouble finding a school to fit my financial needs. Hunter College can be anywhere from FREE to a mere 5,000 dollars if I play my cards right, but I don't want to end up regretting my choice in college.

Now, there are a few things I know for sure...

I want to be in NYC after high school.

I want to be within an intellectually challenging and demanding environment.

I want to be involved in theatre and music, even though my major may not pertain to such (I'm still undecided, though it will probably be Education. I may end up minoring in Theatre though).

So, would Hunter be a good choice for me? I know that I will be applying Early Decision to the Macaulay Honors College in the hopes of receiving a full scholarship. However, do you think that maybe there are other city schools that will fit my educational desires?

Theater and music are stronger at Brooklyn College, but Hunter is an excellent school in the CUNY system.

Actually, the arts are much more prevalent at Hunter College. If you are looking for a intellectually demanding enviornment Hunter is a great choice. The Professors are amongst the best in the state, and Hunter was ranked #2 for Best Public University by the Princeton Review.
And if you are planning to go into education, Hunter and Queens offer some of the best education programs. Hunter offers a track in either elementary or adolescent education, and is a seperate program that is pretty competative.
