Hello there,

I hope this is the correct place to post this, I am new to this forum. Thanks.

Here are my current Junior year classes/grades:
(I still have 5 weeks left until semester is over)

College Algebra Prep A
Biology B+
Concert Band A
AP US History B
US literature A
French D

I am so disappointed with myself. I got a B- first quarter but when my grades average out I will have at best a C. I have struggled with french for the past 6 years and I have decided I am not going to continue next semester and instead take a language Arts class.

A reason I have struggled with French is due to my teachers. I am very much aware of how blaming your teachers is ridiculous but listen-
I have been through 5 fired/transferred teachers and my only consistent teacher had to switch to a different grade due to a death of a professor in the department. Now in Junior year I have her again but she expects so much of our class and most of us are doing so poorly she had to change way she weights the grades so we all aren't failing.

Of course, I could be doing better but I am not.

I have always wanted to go to Winona State University...will I never get into a college with this grade in my junior year? If it helps my first ACT was a 28 and I know I can do much better the next time around.

Are my chances of going to college destroyed?

One D will not kill your chances of going to college… To Harvard maybe, but you don’t want to go to Harvard. Just continue to work hard and you’ll do fine.

Yeah I agree. A D won’t hurt you in any way. Try to work hard in that class and try your best. I got a C in Physics freshman year, and I felt the same way. Now I laugh about it every time I bring it up.

Okay but my last two years were not so hot either. I am trying my best to improve this year and I have in many ways but is that good enough?

I know people with 1 point something gpas that still got into college. CC is not a good measure of the average student, you’re seeing a lot of the elite kids here. I had a 3.3 HS GPA, 30 ACT score and am on a full ride. You will get in to college.

Hey, I reside in MN too. I don’t know what your GPA is, but you should definitely be able to get into Winona

I think this will not keep you out of Winona. If you are still super worried, look into getting a tutor for the last five weeks to see if you can bring it up to a C. My kids are TERRIBLE at French, even after years of it. Both struggled through AP French, but they always had their worst grades in it. I finally started paying a tutor (one of the teachers at their high school who was not teaching their class, but I bet you could find someone who is just older and a good French student for less money). Or some high schools even have free tutoring services (students get volunteer hours for it). So they have that, go see them a lot for the next five weeks!

Also ask your teacher if you can do any extra credit assignments.

Thank you for your replies-this forum is so helpful!
