I am in community college..need advice

Hey All,

I do not know where i should post this but i heard this website may be able to help me with a situation i have. The situation is this: This Fall/Spring will be my last year at the community college. I have two problems i need help with.

This semester i have Philosophy, Math, Biology, and Spanish. I am thinking about dropping my Biology class because A. It is advanced Bio which I never intended to take. This Bio is for medical/science majors so when i saw an academic counselor they said the adviser who helped me choose my classes messed up. I have never had Biology before. In HS i took Chem and Physics so Bio, although it has similarities to Chem, is a new thing for me. If i stick with Bio and get a B it will devestate my near perfect GPA of 3.8. My counselor and i calculated it and determined that if i keep Bio and get an A in all four classes my GPA will wise to 3.83, if i drop Bio and get three A's my GPA will rise to 3.82. Not really worth the effort it would take to pretty much teach myself Biology, as this biology starts off right with membranes. Now the problem, would a W (withdraw) deter me from getting into really good schools? I have been told with my grades, SAT, and enormous list of extra-curricular activities i have a good chance at making it into a great school. Should i drop the course and avoid the risk since it yields little reward?Would the W hurt this?

As i said this Fall/Spring will be my last semesters in which i will get my associates and transfer out. I was thinking about making this Fall semester my last semester and not obtaining my associates degree but instead just transferring as many credits as possible and working towards my BA. The reason i have been thinking about this option is simple, the way my genius counselors have set up my schedule over the past two years (even though it is my fault for taking classes at a side-campus for one year) it seems now i will have to take 2 math classes and 2 sciences classes Spring semester. To top it off it just so happens that i hate math and science equally. So i see it as the semester from hell. Should i just skip Spring semester (take off and work) and then transfer in the Fall or should i continue on the path and push through the hard semester? What i am worried about is if i do take those four classes and get a B or two, that would lower my GPA and i believe most schools ask to see your final grades at the end of the year. If they see my GPA dropped because of the B it could damage my chances and their decisions.

What should i? PS. sorry for the length! Thank you!

It depends on your situation. I know for me I have to remain a full-time student which is 4 classes, or 12 credits so if you drop biology that may effect your status. Not sure if that matters for you. I think if you can get a B than you should just keep it because a B won’t hurt your 3.8 too bad and advanced biology with a slightly lower gp will look better than a slightly higher gpa with an easy semester and a w. Also in my case it would be better to get your associates because I am guaranteed 64 credits if I get it than transfer. If I don’t get it than the courses will be evaluated individually and all of them may not transfer. If it was me I would keep biology and get the associates, but your situation might be different.
