I am officially fat!

43...50, it's all the same. but yeah, I think 7 years can make a difference

he's gonna be 44 in september!

there you go..six years not 7.
is he fat or thin?? I'm jsut wondering.

Normal... he defenitly isn't fat!

There is a much better chance of dying prematurely if you keep eating garbage and drinking sugary drinks (from heart disease and diabetes, which you say run in your family) than from drinking diet soda. So, drink water if you want, but don't complain then because your drink choice is so limited with your new healthy lifestyle.

About the running...I don't know where you live, but I have never heard of people making fun of runners. I suspect you are a little embarassed to run outside because you might not be in a greatest of shape. But that's no excuse! Everyone has to start somewhere, and you have a better chance of giving up on the treadmill than if you are outside.

Isn't there a park or some other area where runners congregate? If you live in a big city, like you say you do, I guarantee there is large community of runners, of all shapes and sizes, who are out every day. Obviously the best place to run is not in the middle of a commercial district. Try to find a more residential area or a trail or a park, where there are LOTS of bikers and runners. You might even meet someone who will run with you.

If you are too uncomfortable running, just put on some comfy clothes and walk for awhile. No biggie! Or you could even rollerblade or ride your bike.

you just reminded me of the perfect place to go running! There is this huge club (or rec centre or whatever you want to call it) that has a 10 kilometer track. It's for horses, but they reserve a little place on the side for people who want to run..plus it's pretty excluded so there will be no one there to see me.
and a few cokes won't hurt...I can't give those up completely. Like once a day would be fine.

Yet another great thing about running - if you run as long as you can in one direction, you still have to run (or at least walk) the same distance back home.

But you can't do that if you're on a track.

yeah, it's one big fat circle. but I prefer the solitude..and there's alot of grass and stuff to look at while I'm running.

Well...I'm underweight. =</p>

I don't mean to be harsh, but if you really want to lose weight, you need to stop with the excuses. No need to diet, just eat healthy foods and exercise lots.

Some of the stuff that's worked for me when I need to cut weight includes:

"Diet"
1. Lots of water - As a guideline, take your bodyweight (in pounds) and divide it by two. That's how many ounces you should drink of water each day. (Actually, that should be thought of more as a minimum, you'll almost never be able to drink too much water...)
2. Lean proteins - Turkey, Chicken, Fish, and very lean red meats are all good sources of protein. Protein (and a small amount of healthy fats) will help keep you fuller for a longer time than just eating carbohydrates. Also, don't be afraid to eat fish with kinda high amounts of fat (like salmon). Most of the time, these are the good types of fats (omega 3's) and will actually help.
3. Split up your meals into more smaller, frequent ones - Try to eat 5-6 small meals each day, instead of 2-3 big ones. By eating more frequently, you'll usually not be "starving" by lunch or dinner and will keep your metabolism up.
4. Always eat breakfast - Never skip breakfast! Again, this helps with metabolism. If you skip breakfast, you likely won't have much energy to make it to lunch and your metabolism will be slower without anything to burn.
5. Avoid most simple sugars - Obviously, simple sugars from cereal, candy, pop, etc. are bad for you. You should try to avoid these for the most part, but a "small treat" is okay each day to keep you from going crazy. The rest of the time, try to get simple sugars from stuff like fruits. Simple sugars provide energy much quicker than complex carbohydrates, so you should eat something like fruit when you really need energy. Complex carbohydrates should come from whole grains (brown rice, wheat bread, oatmeal, etc.) and help provide energy for you to use later.

Exercise
1. Do something every day - It doesn't matter if you're working hard at the gym or just playing soccer, but try to do some sort of cardio activity everyday. You'll feel better from the endorphins and burn a few calories too. If you find a sport you enjoy, this should be no problem.
2. Go slow with the cardio - Don't go out to the track and try to run 5 miles. Instead, jog at a pace where you could comfortably keep up a conversation with somebody if you wanted to. Also, don't be afraid to walk if you need to. Everybody has to start somewhere. If you're consistent, your body will adapt quickly to the jogging and it will get easier each week.
3. Don't forget strength-training - Although, cardio is more important when trying to lose weight; strength training is helpful when you want to maintain your goal. By building more muscle, you'll be able to raise your metabolism so that you will be able to eat more calories during maintenance.

Basically, losing weight just takes a lot of time and effort. If it was easy, everybody would be in-shape. However, they're not. Congrats on getting motivated and good luck! :)

thanks, I copied/pasted that for future reference. :)

and I do usually skip breakfast. I guess that's going to have to change lol.

I usually skip breakfast too lol It's a bad habbit, but I run about 7 miles a day so it's all good. Haha

Actually, one regular coke a day does make a difference. You might as well dump two cups of pure sugar down your throat. Just drink DIET COKE if you can't handle it. Trust me, you won't suffer memory loss...and regular coke makes you sluggish and unmotivated.

Why are you so self-concious about running in front of people? I guess that's your own preference, but watching other people running can be invigorating. And I would MUCH rather risk embarassment than run with a bunch of horses! Gross!

Running with a bunch of horses would make you seem really slow...

BTW Horses ROCK!!!

You will make horses feel embarassed.

LOL

I like looking at the horses as they pass by, the only down side to that is that sometimes the y can leave a little something behind (which i usually step in by accident). It's much better to be alone than to have people around and making me uncomfortable. okay, diet coke it is. no regular..just diet.

But why do people make you so uncomfortable? Trust me, no one is watching you! I can't believe you'd rather step in horse poop than be around other people.

I don't know exactly. I guess I'm a little to self conscious or something. There's never anyone else running do I sort of stand out lol,

Whenever I have the munchies and I eat, I remember this...
Your only hungry if you FEEL (physically ur stomach is rumbling,or you feel something thats not only mental) hungry.
Otherwise, its only mental, and your really not hungry, but you're bored (usually)

If you stopped drinking 3 cans of soda (155 calories) a day for 7 days, you would lose 1 pound (3500 calories= 1 pound). So in 30 days, you could lose 5 pounds :) and thats just off soda.
