Hey guys,
I applied to Tisch RD for Film/TV, and just today I was browsing the forum and saw that if you log into Albert and check your FA award, if it says 2015, it's most likely a good sign.
Well I checked, and behold:

Aid Year Institution Aid Year Description
2015
New York University
Award access not available.

Then I went to my application status.. and I see this:
Fall 2014
Liberal Studies
Core Program
BA
New Freshman
Regular Decision

Just last week (last time I checked), it had said BFA, Film/TV, etc.. this change has me worried.
Did I not get into Tisch? Has Tisch just not decided on me yet? Is this a placeholder?

Urgh… and I thought my portfolio was really good too
I thought it’d be the other way around… i was worried Tisch would want me but NYU itself would deny me.

My daughter also applied to NYU Tisch F/TV. She reports Albert still says the same information this week as last–Fall 2014, Tisch, F/TV, BFA, New Freshman, RD. I certainly hope for you that they did not admit you to a program that was not your choice!

I’m guessing that means that your daughter was A) admitted to tisch for film as a first year freshman, or B) declined. I hope for the best for your daughter’s sake! NYU is a top choice of mine & I just hope I get enough aid.

I think it looks like I’m in, but I just didn’t get into Tisch for freshman year. I did some research and it seems that LSP members who originally applied to Tisch go into Tisch’s film program automatically the summer after Freshman year, so I just have to wait a little bit longer to fully experience my intended major.

Doing some research it seems that LSP is actually really nice. VERY Small classes, artsy courses… like a smaller liberal arts school in a huge university.

I’m guessing yes! I think a lot of the kids who apply to CAS get put into other programs because CAS just gets so many applicants. In fact a lot of LSP kids where funneled in from CAS

LSP is not what I originally wanted, but it looks really great and I’ll be able to go into what I wanted sophomore year :)

I’m sure that you can apply to transfer to another school/change your major from polytech.
I know that with LSP, Film applicants (me…) immediately get put into tisch after the first year provided you maintain a 3.0 (2.0?) GPA. I don’t think it works so seamlessly if you get put into a school like Polytech, after originally applying to CAS. You’d probably have to reapply. Let’s see what happens!

So I know for a fact that I applied for financial aid for NYU but it says financial aid info is unavailable, does anyone know what’s up with that? Plus the rest of my stuff of Albert looks the same. Maybe i just didn’t get in?

@emmcar
Sometimes, that doesn’t change until after you’re accepted. For me, it said that my financial aid info was unavailable and it didn’t change until I got my acceptance.

I am a current NYU liberal studies (LSP) student! I applied directly into this program, but you can be placed into it even if you initially applied to a different one.
LS lasts two years, and after sophomore year you can transition directly in to CAS or Gallatin with no further application required. You can also APPLY to Stern and Tisch, but with those two there are no guarantees, so you could go through LS and still be declined admission to Tisch two years from now. However, you are allowed to apply to Tisch after your freshman year, so you could transition out of LS after a year if you are ultimately accepted!
If you have any other questions feel free to message me!

I was under the impression that you were guaranteed to get into Tisch if you maintained the required GPA. I definitely know people where this was the case. Maybe they changed it? I’ve also heard of people spending one or two years in LSP.

Anyway, you wouldn’t be missing much freshman year in film. From what I’ve heard, it’s just making movies with still images and sound. You can get rid of all your gen eds and then move directly into making actual films. I transferred in from a liberal arts college, so it worked out similarly.

Now the guaranteed admission if you maintain required GPA is only for CAS and a few others. It’s quite possible that this is a recent change, since Liberal Studies has undergone a few changes in recent years!

for film/tv apllicants in particular it seems to be a fairly seamless transition into tisch your sophomore year. I wouldn’t know about the other majors like Drama, Theater, etc. But I do definitely know that some programs require you to go for a second year at LSP.

But for F/TV applicants, it looks pretty easy:

"Requirements for Enrollment in TSOA for Freshmen Admitted to Liberal Studies on a TSOA-Track (for Film and Television)
A minimum grade point average of 2.0 in the freshman year Liberal Studies courses.
These students will not have to resubmit an artistic portfolio during their freshman year because they have already submitted a successful portfolio with their original TSOA application to NYU."

“Students admitted to Liberal Studies on a TSOA-track for Film and Television will enroll in TSOA as sophomores beginning the summer immediately following their freshman year. This early enrollment in TSOA ensures that students will be able to complete all of the course requirements for the TSOA major in Film and Television in four years.”

And I’m okay with missing freshman year of film. Not to gas myself up, but I am one of the more advanced and diversified applicants portfolio-wise. Way passed the pictures-and-audio phase! :D

Maybe LSP for freshman year is the smarter way to go, as you said… to get the general reqs out of the way!

I wouldn’t worry too much if you don’t see a change. I believe I saw a change In my application status for the simple fact that my whole program was shifted by admissions! Plus as someone said, not everyone who hasn’t seen a change on Albert was rejected.

I recall when DD applied to Tisch that she had that crazy Common App essay prompt from NYU about which program she wanted and why. They are so freaking massive that they can entice you to accept their offer and you hope, hope, hope you can transfer. Smart marketing move on NYU’s part.
