i cost money to drop a class?

hi all,
i have been struggling in one of my class, and i am consider to drop it out. But the register office told me that i have 100% liability to the tuition. But i heard another thing from my classmate that once 60% of the semester is over then the financial aid is yours and school cannot ask you to pay back if you drop
which one is true??

It depends on the rules of your financial aid, but, generally, after the dropping period is over you have to pay back the amount for the class you’re dropping.

Depends on the state and the rules of the financial aid (which you signed indicating that you read the terms of agreement, you didn’t apparently).

This disproportionately affects lower income students, who are stuck between failing and repaying. A more affluent student such as myself can easily pay back the financial aid for the courses being dropped, no problem. Its a catch 22 for lower income students resulting in more loans, lower grades, having to choose between repaying money they don’t have or getting a GPA that would disqualify them from future financial aid anyway.

Its an uneven playing field, what will you do?

How is it uneven? If you drop the class after the window has closed, you have to pay. It’s a simple as that.
