There’s nothing wrong with being ‘presentable’ as you put it. Most people are just too lazy to put together a decent outfit in the morning, then feel the need to be snide to those who put an effort in their appearance.

Seriously, just dress the way you want to, and ignore the lazy *******s.

The freshman thing is that people can always tell when you tried too hard. It’s easy to spot freshmen for the first few weeks because it looks like they put whole outfits together, all excited and made a big deal out of it. Wear what you want but don’t try so hard. Dress for the occassion. You can look presentable without being all hoity-toity every single day.

So long as you’re not dressing like a hipster, it is fine to dress better than the rolled-out-of-bed-with-baseball-cap look. They’re just intimidated, lazy, or jealous.

I wear nice european branded designer clothing and shoes, but do not get looked down upon. I actually get compliments from lots of girls for being better put together.

this post really is stupid. Since when do you get looked down on from wearing nice clothes (dressing well) to class??? idk I find nothing wrong with wearing khakis + a polo to class. Nothing wrong with being a hipster and wearing ANF or hco either tho so nothing wrong with either look from my perspective. Rolling out of bed though (if you do it everyday: obviously every student will roll out of bed late once in a while) and wearing sweat pants + a shirt you just picked out does not look good imo and just makes you look lazy.

I don’t think it’s indicative a person is a freshman if they wear nice clothes. I like to look presentable, so I always wear polos and a lot of the time I’ll wear khakis. I won’t be a freshman this semester and won’t be changing my style. I think it looks gross when people go to class looking like they just rolled out of bed even if they do live on campus.

It depends on your school. Some schools tend to have more students looking like they just rolled out of bed. Some schools will have nicer-dressing students. It depends where your school is located, what kind of school it is, how affluent the students are, and the weather.

Obviously you can wear whatever you want. On campuses where people dress more laid-back for class, it may be easier to spot a freshman by how they look really put together. But who cares? You are a freshman. So, wear what you like to wear, and what’s most comfortable for you.

I don’t think this is a stupid thread. It is true that there are some people who just don’t like it when others put in effort in trying to look PRESENTABLE cos they think that’s being vain and they, better as a person for not trying to look good at all. To the OP, I think you just have to brush these kind of people off and be comfortable with what you’re wearing cos the more you feel uncomfortable, the more it’s gonna show and the more these ****heads are gonna snide.

^Hey, same here, except I don’t play football and I don’t go to bars.

Anyway, onhcetum, has anyone actually looked down upon you for wearing nice clothes? If you’re just asking this question because you are expecting it to happen, it is unlikely.

There was this guy in two of my classes last year that dressed REALLY nice in like slacks and vests and those business shirts with the white collars kind of stuff every day. I loved it. No one made fun of him, either.

I don’t really see how freshman dress any different than the upperclassmen. Besides, as long as you don’t look lost and completely clueless, I highly doubt people will be hiding in the bushes snickering at the well dressed freshman. Honestly the only way I can spot a freshman now are by what people say about certain things and if they are carrying around a map. How they dress never came to mind. If my friends and I stereotype about clothing it’s usually by major not year.
