Why is it that people in college look down upon people that wear a polo or kaki pants? At my college, it seems as though it's a sin to wear anything besides athlethic clothing. In fact if you have a popped collar, expect to get laughed at. I'd swear that sometimes, everyone here is a clone. Middle class, from a rural area, white, and athlethic. Is it the same way in your college?

Definitely not the case here at UC Berkeley.

That's not at all how it is at my school. I mean, if you have a popped collar, you probably will get laughed at, just as you would anywhere else. But otherwise, people wear all sorts of clothes - jeans and t-shirts are most commonly worn, except for the dancers, but basically anything is acceptable. The only times I've gotten weird looks are the two times I wore my "Hell No!" Color Purple t-shirt. But then again, it is a religious-based school...

beastar, what school do you go to?

People still pop their collars? Good gosh. I mean, wear the khakis and a polo, but do not pop the collar.

No polos or khakis? That's what you get for living in the dorms...they call that (polo and khakis) "the uniform" in the fraternity houses - or at least they did in my chapter, and I know I've heard other guys use the term (except for Pike b/c they don't have house).

Everywhere you go youll get laughed at for having a popped collar... Personally I think they are the most ridiculous looking things ever.

I'm practically the only polo and khaki guy in my school. I don't even own a hoodie! For me it's polo shirts, khakis, and sweaters on a daily basis.

I commute. I gladly pass on living with 80 other people.

Same here MacTech, except for I'll often wear tucked in polos/sweaters with cargo pants instead of khakis, I need the extra pocket space.

I commute as well, dorm life just isn't for me.

Dude, I am a girl and I dress semi South Asian semi Preppy- neither look is going anywhere anytime soon.

But the popped collar thingy you fellows are doing has got.to.go. Please! On behalf of all females everywhere, leave the collar be, I say. Leave the collar be!

I feel like creating a rap song about my hatred of the popped collar. I would do it old school rap style like Roxanne Shante or something:)

at clemson everybody wears polos and khakis but never pop your collar... it is retarted and cargo pants/shorts are dumb too

Yeah, shots are dumb, 'cause they hurt and stuff.

In my college it depends on the faculty really... Arts and Commerce is mostly popped collars, expensive sweaters and jeans/khakis and deck shoes for the guys and quite dressy for the girls, Science and Engineering are mostly hoody and jeans territory for both genders (suits me just fine!) and Agriculture and Sports Science are mostly tracksuit bottoms and replica soccer shirt country.

merlinjones, I go to OCU. Why do you ask?

here at bucknell everyone pops their collars, and polo's (layered and poped with ponies or crocs) and khakis are deffinetly a norm. I'm not a preppy person but I've even been persueded to get a few lacoste's (they were on sale). It depends SO much on your specific school. And girls pop here too.

Ditto equine99 and clemsonbo. A girl in my Greek history class commented on my "unique dress style"- I was wearing jeans and a t-shirt.

What are ponies? Oh, and please buy some Lacoste, they never really go out of style, dear! How you dress should not depend on where you go to school, no offense to you personally or anything like that.

Popped collars are so out. They were cool for about one minute. So trendy, the second they were in, they were out.

ponies = ralph lauren

_

I agree, popped collars are idiotic looking. (the swagger that often accompanies them doesn't help any either)

And while we're on the subject of asking people to stop wearing something, might I implore that females drop wearing big sunglasses like they have been in the trend that's been popping up recently? It's cute on 3-5 year old babies at the beach, but anywhere other than that...bleh.

you could... ya know... where what you want to wear.
