I took an SAT in december 2018 and ended up getting a 1530. I’m very happy with it. However, I have to take one more SAT (the school required one) coming up and I’m afraid i’ll do poorly on it. I don’t want to study but I will if I have to.
Since I already got a 1530, is it okay if i end up bombing this one? Can I just send my 1530 to colleges when I apply? Or will they see both scores and see the drop off in score?
some schools ask to see all scores but not many. You can pick and chose which scores to send for the majority of schools. Congrats on the great score. I would guess you’ll score same or better even if you don’t study so don’t worry about it. FYI my D was able to opt out after some parental intervention on the school required SAT. Its worth a try if its giving you anxiety but like I said you can chose the scores to send.
Talk to your school counselor. My daughter was in your same position and was exempted from the school-given SAT.
I don’t believe the school one is required
You are allowed to cancel the scores of the second one as soon as you take it. Your scores will still be sent to your state board and your high school, but not to colleges. As far as the College Board is concerned, it will be as if you didn’t take it. The only question might be what your high school does with the scores - will they include them on your transcript? Can you request that they replace them with the scores you already have?
I don’t know what state you’re in but my daughter will take the test April 9 in CT. There is a form that can be turned in on the day of the test, or College Board can be contacted directly within 4 days following the test. Personally, I wouldn’t bother - few schools will penalize you even with a lower score the second time. It’s unlikely your score will drop significantly.
Some schools take the highest scores, others superscore (take the highest section score across tests and then some will use the highest to recalculate a total while others won’t). So the answer is some do. Check each college website to better understand how they deal with scores. Most schools allow you to just submit the test dates you want considered (score choice).
Problem is, my lower score was through the school and state law dictates that it must go on my high school transcript. So even if I use score choice and send my higher score, colleges will still see my lower score since it’s printed on the transcript.

The OP created a second account to ask a very similar question. Since repetitive posts and multiple accounts are both against the rules, I am closing this thread.
