I don't think my essay topic will get me into a school?

Hi- I just was wondering/looking for advice on what should I do if I don’t particularly like my essay topic after I’ve written it?
I’ve had a few people read the essay and they all say they like it, but I’m not feeling it. Could it be that I just have read it too many times?

Get someone to read it who has experience helping many students apply to universities. Your high school guidance counselor is one possible choice. They will have a better idea whether it is good compared to you or your friends or your parents.

Assuming that you are applying for schools starting in September of 2018, you still have time to get this right. You could let it sit for a few weeks and then come back and see what you think.

I have experience with writing my own essays and editing essay for my students that I tutor. I would love to help you edit your essay-- give you some feedback, suggest edits, or just give you some ideas. I found that feedback from my peers, who have recently gone through the experience of writing actually provide some of the most relevant feedback. You can PM me if you’d like.

It’s rarely the topic that “gets you into a school”–its’ the essay.

And the weight you give to the opinions of those who have read it depend on their experience with editing college app essays. There are several people here who do this professionally-- try some of them.

Avoid other kids who, at best may give you bad advice and at worst may steal your essay.
