Hey guys, Im an international student and I want to study in the USA next year. My GPA is not so high, its around 2.8, my highschool was not so easy and it is the best in my country. I want to do well in the SAT to compensate my SAT. To be honest, I dont really know if I have much of a chance but Im going to try my hardest and see how it goes.

I did a official practice test from College Board and got a 1610. I know I can do much better because I took my time in some questions and omitted some because of lack of time. I followed the time limits.

I can take the SAT in october and december. I think im going to get around 1600-1700 if I take it in october, but I dunno if its worth it. I heard some colleges round up both SATs so if they do so Id rather just take it in december when Im more prepared. I think that if I take it in december I could get around a 1800 or more.

What do you guys think?
Do I even have any chances with that GPA? Im not sure if Im wasting time here, even though its not a waste because Im improving my english and maths :)

Most schools in the US that you would probably apply to will superscore the SAT, so yes, you should take it now and also in December, if you can. Schools that superscore will consider only your highest score from each section of the test. so for example if your best Math score is from the October test and your best critical reading and writing are from December, they’ll consider those separate subscores. It can not hurt to take the test several times. Often the practice alone helps you to improve.

I should add that I want to apply to universities such as Colorado State University, University of Colorado at Boulder, University of Central Florida, Western Michigan University, and more. It mostly depends on my scores too.

You will need to get an acceptable TOEFL score also. if you end up with relatively low SAT CR and W scores they may be given less weight because English is a second language and you are international.

My suggestion:
For the October one, concentrate improving only one subject. Try to get a perfect score on that section.
After you take the test, concentrate on the other two, and take the test in December. So, you superscore would be good enough.

But one question:
If you study at the best school, why do you have such a low SAT score?

Well i took a gap year and i was kinda lazy to be honest but Ive been studying and putting a lot of effort because I wanna improve. Even though my HS was the best school it was not so hard. Cant really compare with the high schools in the USA heh cause its totally different here.
