The thing is, a lot of people (I mean A LOT) were rejected by simple colleges (using CC standards here) such as UC Irvine and UC Davis.
I'm not going to lie, but I considered UCLA as a back up school.
And getting into Berkeley isn't really hard for the average CCer (who is from California, of course) unless you applied to Berkeley EECS.

After the whole college process, a lot of my acquaintances are going to state schools. About 5 got into Berkeley (no EECS) and 6 into UCLA...which honestly I don't think is a big deal.

We've gotten 1 into Harvard and 2 into Duke, including myself. I can't help but look down on the people who were rejected by these "simple UC schools."
I know its disgusting....that's why I'm even here, so PLEASE don't blow up on me.

1) These people were mean to me. Very rude to me before
2) They neglected academics and sought after popularity....now they see its worthless and temporary

Aside from the Harvard dude and the girl who got into Duke, I sorta "look down" on the others....I feel ashamed, but I was wondering if its normal.

I honestly don't know the point of asking this question. I just felt like getting it out of my chest...

No. I’m a smart guy and I got rejected from UC-Riverside. You’re not an idiot if you’re going somewhere that isn’t ~top 10. Deflate your ego a bit sir.

Hmm, I guess it’s just as well that you’re going to a college where nearly everyone else is like you (since you were all accepted).

I honestly never felt that way…I felt more shy and embarrassed and not knowing what to say in front of them without rubbing it in their faces…than disgusted, lol. But that’s just my personality :)

Ok, so it’s quite obvious that you really don’t like these kids. And I guess it’s normal to feel a bit superior when you get into a top-20 school or 2 while some jerks that you hate can’t even get into a UC.

But what about the rest of your friends who didn’t get into Duke or Harvard? Do you look down on them, too? Because if so, then yes, you do need to deflate your ego a bit.

I don’t see why you shouldn’t feel that way, considering those were the incompetent losers who looked down on YOU all these years. And now you have a solid accomplishment to seriously cast them in their true light lol. Congrats on Duke, btw.

We can first conclude he is hard working; he chose academics over partying and social stuff. We can further conclude he is smart; he got into duke.

Why the hell can he feel superior? When you take a stroll down the projects in the Bronx, do you not hold your head high thinking how more sophisticated you are?

After all, we tend to forget smartness is partly genetic, suggesting the OP’s superior gene pool. Obvious there will be *some exceptions but the other kids at his school could have studied instead of party had they retained their hard work gene.

The whole “your superior because you attend a better university thing” is a bit too egotistical, but I can totally understand your lack of respect for kids who ignore academia in HS to attain a higher perceived social status, especially if those kids make fun of you or w/e.

umm have you thought that maybe people would be happy at the school they are attending besides of their selective nature ? I’d much rather go to ucla than duke.

and yes, you a re a ***bag. Just because people didn’t get into a college YOU think is good doesn’t mean they didn’t work hard in school. so * off.
