So I don’t think my essay is bad it just seems boring to me and I feel like it’s really repetitive. It’s basically about how seeing watching a performance helped me realize that I really enjoy searching for answers/how I’m really curious. But,I feel like my essay can be better and I’m not sure if by better I mean coming up with a whole new essay, with a different idea or fixing some things in the essay I have right now. I know coming up with a whole new essay is risky since I’m planning on submitting my college applications later this month, but what do you guys think? Any advice/tips? Also, it’s helpful if you’ve already gone through the college process and felt the same about your essay at the time. How did you deal with it?
I started writing common app essays since summer. I finished 3 different ideas/drafts during the summer, but then I tossed all of them away because I still felt like they lack that spark, if you know what I mean. For me, if I feel like my main topic of the essay is already boring and cannot represent me well, it would be really hard and frustrating trying to fix it. Because however you try to edit the essay, if it’s not the right topic, it won’t feel like one.
So I started over with a completely new one, about an EC that I’m passionate about. And it just clicked. You don’t have that much time right now, so try pondering on what you have done through your high school years or some significant events that changed your outlook on life, and tried to choose what topic that interests you the most. I’m not sure how “boring or bad” you essay is, since some people can be pretty harsh self-critics while their works are actually good, but if you feel like you don’t like the essay at all (like how I felt towards my 1st, 2nd and 3rd drafts), then you could consider writing about a new, more interesting topic.
