I'm a freshman at community college and I want to transfer to a university next fall.

I am applying to 5 colleges, but I feel that that's too many for a transfer student. I'm applying to 4 public state schools, and Temple University, which is my reach school. Is applying to 5 colleges as a transfer student too many?

I also do not know if I will even be accepted to any of these colleges. I have a 2.88 GPA, which is acceptable to the state schools. I took 3 classes in the fall semester, and got an A, a B+, and a D in math, because I am terrible at math and I always have been. I am retaking the class in the spring semester. But this isn't the only class that I didn't do well and had to retake. I had to retake 3 other classes in previous semesters. I improved my grade in the classes that I retook.

Is applying to 5 colleges for a transfer student too many? And do I still have a decent chance of getting accepted to at least the state schools? I am writing an essay, explaining why I got the D.
