I feel like such an idiot.

I missed the deadline to request an interview. I don't know how I overlooked it; I guess I assumed they'd contact you after they received the application, because that seems to be the protocol at most of the schools I'm applying to. Chicago is one of my top choices (I don't have one favorite school due to financial aid considerations), and I'm disappointed that I missed this opportunity to show my sincere interest in the school. Will the fact that I didn't interview hurt me in admissions? Should I just write a really extremely enthusiastic "Why Chicago?" essay and hope for the best? I assume there's nothing that can be done about the interview situation, but is there any other way that I can make clear how serious I am about Chicago?

Don't worry about it. For one thing, there's nothing you can do about the interview now. For another, they really don't care too much about it.

I missed the deadline by 1.5 hours. I'm feeling pretty bummed out as well. But hey, you're not alone :)

mention your interview situation in the additional information section, and I'm sure they'll understand.

lol don't worry about it. if they really cared that much about the interview they wouldn't have left it optional.

My S never requested an interview, and therefore, never had one. He was admitted two years ago.

Don't worry too terribly much about it, I got in EA without an interview. Though you might want to plea with the people who run interviews, maybe they can do something for you :). Chicago admissions are nice people.

Yeah I wouldn't worry about it either. I didn't have an interview at UChicago either... but I did write an incredibly enthusiastic "Why Chicago" essay. I was admitted in the EA cycle... so obviously the interview is not crucial. As far as I can tell with many schools I've applied to, the interview is primarily another chance for the applicant to ask questions and learn more about the school. While it does give you the oppertunity to express your sincere interest in Chicago, there are other means of doing so as well.

Good luck! :)

Thanks for reassuring me, everyone. I'm clearly a bit high-strung after spending most of my break trying to get those essays done! :)

I missed it too, and I got accepted.

I'm sure you'll be fine.
