I feel sort of guilty.

My school offered an AP English Lang class for the first time this year, but I decided to take Honors English III instead because the teacher was way better. I took the English Lang exam because our school is part of the NSMI grant, so it was half-off and getting at least a 3 would net me $100. I told myself I would self-study, but I didn't - at all - not even one practice essay - and I went in and scored a 5. Good for me, but I've generally had the philosophy that people should have to work for what they get, and I didn't work at all for the grade, whereas I had to work my butt off for fives in Biology and AP US History. Thoughts?

English Lang tests aptitude. There’s no set curriculum (well there is, but the guidelines are SO vague any English course could just about qualify for the class). If you worked hard for Honors English III that’s the exact same thing as studying.

Well yeah I had to read 12 novels over the course of the school year so I suppose that counts, including All the King’s Men - sooo long!

dude best quote “moderation has been made a virtue to curb the ambition of the great and counsel the poor in merit and fortune” - basically do not feel bad you got a 5 easier than some other kids, be glad you did not have to put forth a large amount of effort - always just do the best you can

maybe even put that effort towards something else

Ha, nice. I took the class, but I don’t know my score yet. Man, if I don’t get a 5 I’m going to be very mad at you. Not really, but just upset. I only need a 3 though so it should be good :)

I got a 5 on the practice AP test we took at the beginning of the year in my AP Lang class, including a 9 on the rhetorical essay.

It really is aptitude IMO. I can’t say I read often because I don’t. To me it really came down to my deeper understanding of the passages and tone. Super easy. Positive I got a 5 on the real thing.

Yeah, I mean rhetorical analysis has never come hard to me, so that essay was a breeze. As was the 3rd one, the name of which escapes me…

third was the argumentative one over adversity. good job. I got a 5 as well.
