<p>Hii!
I'm going to be a senior next year at a school in Michigan, and UIUC is at the top of my list of schools to apply to. After all the research I have done, however, I'm seeing that it's a super competative school.
GPA-3.65
I've taken Honors English courses all of high school and am a year ahead in math. I've taken four sciences classes, an honors class freshman year and then chemistry and physics. I've taken 4 full years of social sciences, one of which was an AP course. I took 2 AP's last year, (Language and Comp/Government) and got 4's on both exams.
This coming year I plan on taking AP Literature and Comp, AP Psychology, AP Calculus, Newspaper(possibly an editor), World Religions/Internatinal Relations, and I have an open hour I need to fill.
I got a 29 on my ACTs, and am taking them again in Sept.
I've gotten 100+ volunteer hours at a hospital, played tennis for the school team for 3 years, Key Club for the past 3 years, NHS, Student Council, and am vice president of the youth committee of a community organization called Just Lend a Hand that works all year to organize arrangements for the less fortunate in the area during the holidays.
I plan on majoring in Psychology or Public Policy/Law or International Relations.
Any comments about my chances...if they exist at all...and how to improve things senior year would be a big help! Thanks guys!</p>
<p>You might want to take the SAT as well in the fall to see which one you do better in. I’d say your GPA is okay but it would be ideal if you could add another point or two on your ACT or get a 2100 or higher on your SAT. Essays, recs, and fall semester grades will help your case also. At this particular moment I’d have to say you are a very high match/low reach due to the quality applicant pool. Good luck to you!!!</p>
<p>An ACT of 29 is fine for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. You don’t say whether the GPA that you mention above is weighted or not. The rigor of your classes seems fine, but class rank is important too, which you don’t mention either. Visiting this link will give you an idea of your chances, as well as what admissions considers important. Specifically, look at the mid-50% admit range for LAS.</p>
<p>[U</a> of I Admissions: Freshman Admission Requirements](<a href=“http://admissions.illinois.edu/apply/requirements_freshman.html]U”>Page Not Found, Illinois Undergraduate Admissions)</p>
<p>I’m in the top 20 percent of my class and my GPA is unweighted.</p>
<p>OK, well, your ACT score puts you firmly in the mid-50% of LAS students admitted. Your HSPR is a bit below the mid 50% range. Your course rigor and ECs look good. I’d say work to at least maintain, and hopefully bring up the GPA this year showing them an upward trend, and I’d say you’re probably a match, or slight reach. Work on those essays, they are very important, and get your application in for the priority registration period.</p>
<p>Note to JShain: Last year, letters of recommendation were not required, and at Open House, they even said they would NOT look at them. Save your letters of rec for other schools (or maybe the requirements changed this year?). If you do priority application, they will not even see your fall grades, but I think they WILL examine your senior year classes.</p>
<p>just do well on your essays everything else looks fine</p>
<p>BerneseMtn, Thanks for the updated info re. rec letters at UIUC.</p>
