I felt like a second class citizen

First let me give you a little background, I have a 4.0 and was accepted into UVA but I thought I like JMU better so I turned down UVA. Yesterday I went to orientation and I couldn’t have been more wrong. The students were very nice but the administration was horrible. They acted as if I was a second class citizen. I was accepted back in February and have been in communications with them ever since. I knew that students signed up for classes in March or April so I was trying to avoid being placed into bad classes at bad times, I have a learning disability and like for things to be the same so I can get into a routine. I was reassured that, “classes would be available” and that my advisor would help me pick classes. NOPE I showed up to the advising meeting and it was a group meeting and I learned nothing. Better yet they had already placed me in classes, only two for some reason (I need 4 classes to get into COB 300) at the worst times ever 8:00am and 6:00pm with the worst teacher ever! Why do they look at transfer students so differently, my money is just as good? I wanted to go to JMU, now I don’t. I am really p!ssed off at JMU!

I know that on the Onebook website, they have you pick your number one choices for certain general education areas and that you will definitely get two of these classes. Are these the two you are referring to?
Also, how can you only have two classes? That’s not even a full time student.
Are you in the honors program?

Currently I am signed up for 4 classes, they signed me up for two of those classes. I don’t know why they didn’t just sign me up for all four? As for the Onebook, I think that is for freshmen, I will be a junior. No I am not in the honors program, I didn’t apply. I want to know why they made it seem as if I would get the classes I wanted when actuality the adviser knew all along what she was going to do? Now I have to take classes with horrible professors, I have worked to hard to keep my 4.0 for some adviser to screw me over.

Most schools have an add/drop period at the beginng of each semester. Try and make changes then. Or if you have your ideal classes picked out, trying emailing professors for an override. Something made you pick JMU over UVA. What school are you transfering from?

i only have two classes right now it says

there is definitely an add/drop period… also, most classes will begin to open up once all of the summer springboards end… around august 10thish because upperclassmen will begin to drop classes and switch schedules around… most classes will be filled right now because of all the freshmen coming in, but after that it should begin to open up again.
