so does anyone have any advice on what I should do? should I have my GC explain that I suck at test taking (SAT, AP wise) and that I was having a bad day?

I would get it rescored. I initially got a 2 on my APUSH exam but had it rescored and it turned out that I had actually received a 4 on the exam. A 1 is really low. They may have missed one of your essays.

I'm pretty sure AP scores are sent individually.

Simply do not send the score. I got a bad score on AP English Lit and I did not send it in.

AP scores are sent on a cumulative score report. The OP's question boils down to asking whether it is worse to report an AP score of 1 or to not report an AP score at all for a course taken with an AP designation. That's a tough question. If the OP is a junior this year (a member of class of 2010), taking any AP test as a sophomore looks reasonably good, as few sophomores take AP tests. But I think the main issue is learning better study skills and assimilating the material in all the AP courses the OP is taking this year, and doing well on this May's AP test. Then the score from last year shouldn't matter so much. It's also necessary not to make excuses like "I'm not a good test-taker," because the thing to do is to learn to take tests better. That's what students do who are admitted to the OP's target colleges.

and see if it helps.

Thanks guys. Yes I took AP Euro as a sophomore. I am now a junior. Ok well, I suck at SAT type tests..but the thing is, on the day of the test, I was having a horrible day. Everything bad that could happen happened to me that day and to top it all off, when I was taking the test...the guy next to me sneezed in my face and kept coughing.

Also, like there was 1 minute left on the multiple choice and I had 15 mc left. I didn't hear (im sorta deaf) that AP tests are just like SAT, where if you bubble in and get it wrong, you lose points. I then proceeded to bubble stuff in randomly in the remaining 5 seconds.

Maybe tahts why I got a 1?

OP, I have proctored AP exams the past three years. Sorry to say that in much of the country, you will be sitting in AP exams during May with folks who are suffering from allergies. It's that time of year. I certainly sympathize; when there are 150 people in a testing room and it's utterly silent except for the sounds of sniffling and sneezing, the racket seems deafening. (We always walk around with tissue boxes when proctoring. Students are visibly grateful.) I can't imagine those who are snuffling feel too great, esp. if they chose not to take allergy medications that might alleviate their symptoms but cause them to feel sleepy.

Nevertheless, it sounds like between now and May would be a good time to hone your studying and test-taking skills. Practice exams can help you gauge how you're using your time during the exam. Are you getting answers correct, but working slowly? Agonizing over the answers and running out of time? Do you have time to finish your essays? All of these are things you can glean from doing practice tests and can manage on test day to a certain degree. We found at our house that analyzing the types of errors and finding patterns were the most helpful aspects of preparing for these kinds of exams.

Work on these study skills, as well as specific subject content, to bring up this year's exams, and the 1 from last year may not matter because schools can see your progress. Personally, I think it's always better to disclose that an applicant took an AP exam, even if one is not happy with the score.

i got a 2 on my ap spanish language exam and want to know something? that has been the worst experience ive ever lived in my academic life, its like a long story, just terrible after coming home from a trip on LACSA 604 from costa rica to los angeles. I opened my mail and saw that I had failed the exam and was one of the top 5 students in spanish IN THE SCHOOL, I cried and cried, my summer was ruined because this occured on july 24, from years ago back. it was an awful experience and i feel your pain, i thought that was the end of the world, i cried for like 8 months, and just couldnt find meaning in life. people who had got lower grades than me got 3's and 4's i got very frustrated. now iam waiting for admissions to the UC'S I applied to hopefully I get accepteed or I dont know how can i handle another ruined summer

oops sorry i meant AP spanish literature i actually got a 4 on spanish language

thanks countingdown and chesser. yes i will study and dedicate myself from here on out..yea i kinda agonize..thats what i did for ap euro and i ran out of time. its like my chest felt heavy and my head felt woozy, if you know what i mean

and i hope you get in chesser good luck bro =)

yeah just dont report it, i got a 1 on my chem after getting 5s on like everything else cuz i basically just didnt try on the test hahah. so i just reported all my other ones except that and got into plenty of good schools. no one cared.

Lemme poke at your brain, if you don't mind.

Do you know what it is that makes you a "bad test taker"? I ask because I am the opposite, a good/great testtaker that's average at school. I wanna know what makes you not good at tests.

If you don't mind :D

OP, AP Euro is also a very tough exam, from what folks have told me.

well, i get nervous the week before the test. i have never been good at SAT (got a 1950 on it...its sucks really bad..but i went up over 100 points from an 1800 on PSAT so i guess its ok in that context?)

plus im going deaf/is deaf...so I can't really hear. I stress out over this fact and what is going to happen to me as days pass by.

I am good at tests given at school..because i usually memorize/understand (i can sometimes recite an entire chapter lawl) and plus the environment is more relaxed. in ap testing/sat testing, its freaking quiet and if i need to sniffle/sneeze, I don't want to because I'm scared that it might "disrupt" the peace and collegeboard would rescind or w/e my AP exam...yea...

and yea AP Euro is tough...my teacher, she didnt give a study guide, all she did was tell us to buy the AP exam and expected us to do stuff on our own...although she was a great teacher

If you are becoming deaf in your teen years you definitely want to write about that in your college application. Be sure to read the instructions for all tests you take in advance, and reread them to make sure you know them well, because it sounds like you're beginning to have trouble hearing the instructions given by your proctors. Read ahead to be prepared on how to take the tests.

Good luck with your studies. Stay calm under all that stress.

how can you get a 1? lol. maybe there was an error either on your part or on the test maker's part???

but yeah...a one is bad...lol. That's the equivalent of sitting there and just filling out your name.

Ok, yea i plan on writing about that. Well now I know that AP tests are just like SAT, huge mistake last year lool

but how do you guys usuallty study for ap tests? like just read the princeton review chapters and hope you can retain the information? and what about dbqs, frqs, and the like? its not possible to remember everything and hope that the stuff you studied comes up on the frqs

and yea hope2getrice, i can't believe i got a 1. but i can't do anything about it now...

and i think i asked this before, but are you guys sure that scores below a 3 do NOT have a deciding factor in admissions?

CANCEL your score.

You can cancel your AP scores after you have seen them, but they take 1 year to clear from your record. If you are a junior, you can cancel your AP Euro test and your colleges will never know unless you tell them

i dunno...then colleges will think that i was too lazy to take it...i really was having a bad day, should i let my gc put this in the note?
