Am I screw? I took the test cold without prep. Is there any chance I can improve it to be a national merit scholar my junior yr?

Well, in the long run you aren’t necessarily “screwed.” As the acronym states, it is a “practice test.” Understand what subjects you are lacking on and where you could be considered “intellectually bankrupt” and improve upon yourself for the coming year ahead.

Well, you aren’t “screwed” if you don’t get national merit scholar. The vast majority (>99%) of the test takers don’t get it. But whether or not you can improve your score enough depends on a few things. One, which state you’re in. If you live in say, Wyoming, you’d only have to get it up to 201 or so, while if you live in New Jersey, you’d have to get it up to the 220s. It also depends on why you are getting questions wrong. Not understanding the passages/math is harder to improve on than not being familiar with the types of questions.

I live in Texas. How do u guys improve your score?

don’t worry about it after all you didn’t prep at all! i got a 200 on the psat sophomore year which went up to a 215 junior year which qualified me as a semifinalist. on the real sat i got a 2330 so just keep working! you’ve still got a lot of time.

Nah, I got a 184 PSAT sophomore year. Junior year I got a 214, which didn’t qualify me for semi, unlike swuuu over here. Then I got a 2200 on the SAT on my third try.

I studied the summer before junior year. But after that, never again.

…a 1910 is a fine score. calm down.

I think you need to improve your having a life score, because this post shows a contrary to having one.

This thread makes me feel better about my PSAT score…(ugh-- just missed 200 by a hair)
People at my school make it seem as if anything less than 200 on the PSAT qualifies you as stupid…

I don’t know if this says anything about Texas as a whole, but I scored a 198 (death hell fail by CC standards), and the next highest score was in the 150s… :P

i got a 179 as a junior and my lifes awesome… so dont sweat it lol (though I did end up with a 32 ACT)

HAHA, cj :)

You’re fine.

You’re a sophmore- you are basically expected to get lower than a 200+

AHAHAHAHAHAHA. Wow.
Perspective: I got a 186 on my JUNIOR PSAT.
I took a SAT prep course
I got a 2250 on my SAT.
You’re going to be fine :)

Thread starter, stop making whiny ass threads about your your perfectly good scores are terrible. Believe it or not, there are people that have it worse than you, jackass.

Is your local community college any good? I’d look into it as a pretty viable option.

I find this thread hilarious. That score has to be in the top 10% of scores within your grade, something to be proud of, not to mention the facts that schools can’t see your PSAT scores and the test wasn’t functioning as the NMSQT.
If you’re worried about maxing out on the SAT at 1900, I’d recommend buying their prep book and enrolling in a class(Kaplan or the like). Scores improve naturally anyway.

^ooo…Kaplan…

I got a 202 PSAT as a sophomore (cold).

After 3 weeks of studying, I got a 2250 as a junior (in October).

You’ll be fine.
