Getting right to the point: after checking my grade in my AP Science class, it appears I’ll be receiving a C for the first semester. Will it tank my GPA? This is my only AP class and I’m worried it will ruin my chances for getting into a good college.
The only grade that counts is the end of the year. There are thousands of colleges. A C won’t keep you out of college.
How do you know already what your semester grade will be? It’s early days yet in most U.S. schools. Where are you?
Some transcripts show semester or quarter grades. Adcoms can see that.
How your school calculates and reports is a question for your GC.
It will definitely impact your GPA but by how much will be dependent upon what are your other grades so far. Also as stated above, what will show up on your transcript? My son’s HS sent home quarter grades but only listed semester grades on the transcript. Talking with your Guidance Counselor is the best way to determine how much of a hit your GPA will take with that C.
You need to learn and understand how your GPA is calculated. No one here can tell You the impact without a lot more information.

@inthegarden - Some high schools in the midwest start in early August. I also have friends in CO that started that early as well.
