i haven' received that letter yet, are they supposed to be sent to everybody?

I think its unclear if its something everyone gets or if it something special, but the letter last year seemed like something special

I know Dean Gregory! She's a very nice lady. But back to the subject, I don't think you should take the letter as an indication of guaranteed admission. It is very possible they'd like you here as a student.

yeah, I got this letter. I think it's just that your application is finished....and that you're not missing anything in the way of materials.

yea i think maybe I was just reading too much into the line "Hang in there; April 1st will be here before you know it."....I'm interested to see what is in the "Look Hoo's Talking" email tho. I'm still wondering why not everyone got it.

jaw,
I don't know what to make of things. I just think it is too labor intensive, on UVA's part, to set up every AA applicant with a UVA student. It can't be done, it's too much. So, I suspect, that a select group of urm's are contacted as you were. I think it is positive. From the replies of this thread, it obviously doesn't appear that all urm's have gotten your letter. So take it as a positive, but not a given. I think you are in a select group.
Best of luck, please keep posting and keep us informed.

Ye, i agree. If you are a non-white (best way to describe it) student who got this letter, and if other nonwhite students didnt. Then it definitely is a great sign. Also, they send out postcards "to let you know they got your application" not letters urging you to consider UVA.

wait...nvm. I got one very similar though. I was too lazy to read this entire one. But it was close to the same thing.

Bklyn2Cornell, I think you mean "non-white/non-asian".

I recieved the same letter as Jaw did as well. Does anyone know whether the Echols/Rodman letters have been sent out yet?

the wait is killing me lol...April seems SO far away

You're telling me, haha. Just a while longer! Jaw, I have a question. Have you recieved your "Look Hoo's Talking" e-mail yet? Did they give you a specific contact number in your letter, or do they want us to wait until the email comes out? I got an email asking me to fill out my FAFSA and such from UVA, but no LHT email yet.

The pain of waiting is getting to be too much. For all my colleges. Umich deferred me and said I'l know in March, UConn......not until March, GW, AU.......same thing and then UVA........April. What the hell.....this is ridiculous.

no I havent gotten the email yet...the letter said it should come in the next few weeks so I'm thinking it might come a couple weeks after the letter was dated. I think the Look Hoo's Talking email might have something to do with black student they matched us with.

Hmmm...That's what I thought. Sorry, Chalant 1. :( That's gotta be horrible...I did RD to all of my schools, and I don't hear back from any until April 1. April 2nd is going to be an interesting day of school. >___<

The admission committee is done reviewing your application and impressed with your acadamic record and would like to offer you admission.....................Why cant they just send me an acceptance letter now???? They might change their mind come April?? any thoughts will be appreciated

ok well ur obviously in because they said they would like to offer you admission lol

When did you receive that letter, whyivy? And you're obviously IN, so just sit back n chill until April! Congrats! I don't think UVA is allowed to send in an official "acceptance" letter because it's governed by league guidelines and does not technically offer rolling admission. I think they just want to keep your interest, and let you "kinda" know you're in without coming right out and saying it. Because RD dec. come out April 1, colleges don't want other colleges to have an unfair advantage with the best applicants. They want you to know you had more than a chance at UVA. At least, that's my take on it. That's just my take on it, my word obviously isn't law. Since UVA is so happy with your app, why not call the Admissions Office to talk about it, Ivy?
As for the letter Jaw and I recieved, doesn't UVA offer "peer advisors" to minority STUDENTS? Maybe our letter was a good sign, no? :)

theduckie07 I got it about an hour ago I will certainly would give them a call on tuesday !! I will save the excitment for April when all my rejections from the ivies roll in. Thank you guys

My friend recieved the "URM Letter" today and it was dated Feb 14
