ok guys, I will have this entire summer to prep for SAT Bio and Chem. I was wondering what would be the best resources to get to prep for the exams? I am currently taking AP Chem (i dont get this class AT ALLL!!!) and am scheduled to take SAT bio next year. i have PR SAT for Bio and AP PR/Barrons for chem. I feel the chem should be enough but i am always up for advice, I really need help choosing apt books for bio.

PR + Barrons, or PR + Cliffs for bio.

actually scratch chem out, im just going to take bio and math level II. sooo any advice there? ha

CB math book + barrons + kaplan (when you run out of CB tests, and you are too exasperated for barrons. kaplan content review sucks, but tests are pretty decent.)

I agree with RAlec114 about Bio, but I would use all three books since you have the whole summer. I highly recommend getting Cliffs AP Bio. It’s extensive and more pertinent to the AP exam, but it still works well for Bio.

You might as well as take AP Bio while ur at it lol

If you already took AP Bio and understood it well then you probably won’t need a prep book at all. At least that is the way it was with me for USH.

^not the way to go. Sure, you could get a 700-750 from just AP bio, but why get that when you can study and get 750-800?

Read through Barrons and PR and a AP bio review book twice for bio, then take the practice tests on spark notes,
If you get a 800, keep on reading because the real SAT is harder,
Else, read through Barrons and PR and AP bio review book all over again.

You could get a 750-800 from just AP Bio if you did well in the class/exam, in my opinion.

My friends who got 5s and didn’t study for SAT II Bio got 700-750, if that means anything lol. (basically meaningless anecdotal statistics)

yeah i am currently not taking ap bio but have nad exposure to bio freshman year. thnx for the books guys. I’ll make sure to get the clffs AP bio book. and also i was wondering how excatly would i attack the material? do i jus read from front to back numerous times or take notes?

Front to back, perhaps use a highlighter the second time around, go around it a lot more times, and then re-read certain pages/chapters. Basically reading a lot, and then doing practice tests

and would be only source for practice tests be the ones in the PR book and BR books? or is there a CB official bio one?

There is only one CB one that CB released. Very sad. It’s in the official subject test book. There is also a 50 question bio test from the old “real SAT 2s” and great practice problems on the website. So you kind of have 2 tests.

Just do sparknotes, PR, whatever. The score is meaningless; just get the practice in (timing, questions, whatever).

Barron’s and PR is a good combo for the SAT II. Memorization is key. Some people, like me, cannot memorize something by just reading and highlighting. Do whatever it takes - making flash cards, writing down lists over and over, talking out loud to yourself. You will know when you have fully memorized the info.

It is essential to memorize basically all the stuff from those two prep books for 750+, at least in my experience. The first two times I took the Bio SAT II, I sort of memorized but didn’t make it a point. I did not get anything higher than a 700. The third time I took it in June, I made it a point to memorize all of the info. I think I got a much higher score and I felt a lot more confident. Good luck!
