Hi, I applied for 2011 fall and today I have received a letter from FIU telling me that i have been deferred. I understand that I'm not in and not out. This is good? what i should do? i'm an international student from Venezuela and i have finished high school on july of 2010, so i don't have new grades. i did the sat and i got 580 on math but 400 on critical and 400 on writing. I don't have chances to do it again. I have 80 on my TOEFL and a friend told me that the TOEFL could equilibrate the SAT english parts. and they required me 63. my GPA is a little low. Right now im at boston doing an English course. So what do you encourage me to do? write them a letter? live it like that and just wait? Im applying to the college of Engineering. so this is good? or is bad?. please help me because I'm a little worried about that.

any guesses?

Hey, I applied there back in December and got deferred also… but then I sent my midyear report and retook the SAT and got accepted for the Summer term.
So, I would advise maybe retaking the SAT…bu seeing as you can’t do that… I would say write a strong personal statement expressing you interest in the school. And, maybe send in a letter of recommendation from like a teacher or a employer…someone who has known you for sometime and can vouch for your character.

Chances are you’d be accepted to a Summer Term like me, which isn’t entirely bad…

Hi , I applied for admission to fiu for the fall 2011 and i was deferred. I have a 3.25 gpa and a 1300 sat combined. My guidance counselour told me that I am not in and I am not out, so there is still a chance. I just registered the for the May 7 SAT that my school is offering for us. I just had my teacher send in reccomendations , and i have taken 6 AP classes. I am currently in AP Lit, AP Bio, AP World History. What else should i do ? I am freaking out i really want to go there. My friend told me that my scores are holding me back, if thats the case how can i best prepare for the may 7 sat to ensure admission.

I was deferred for Spring 2011. My SATs were kind of low and i retook the ACTs instead and scored a whole lot higher. I got accepted for summer and fall with that out-of-state $5000 USD scholarship. Just try to retake the SATs or if you think you can do better, try the ACTs. That worked for me.
