I got deferred: Should I send them a letter?

Ok, so as the title of this thread implies, I was deferred EA. A few people, my GC inluded have told me to write the adcoms a letter stating that even though I got deferred stanford is still my no 1 choice, and how I love them still, blah, blah, blah, along with the usual optional update form. The problem is my GC is an idiot (seriously, i live abroad, so she really doesnt know that much; she thought harvard was in cali) and I think her advice needs to be taken with a pinch, or perhaps a bucket of salt. You, reader are my salt. Advise me please...to send the letter and sound desperate/sycophantic, or should I just stick with the update form?

O yea, I was also thinking about sending an essay that I used in another app. I thought it was really nice, you know, kind of humurous but at the same time it revealed my personality, so I was also thinking of sending that in....but... based on Stanford's explicit request NOT to send additional material during the initial application process, should I?

PS: sorry for the long fragmented posts :)

Unless it adds something tangible, my advice is that you should not. They know you are still thinking of attending just by sending the optional update form. Hope for the best!

Stanford adcom staff may not have a sense of humor?

They did not defer you for lack of interest in Stanford...
....it could ahve been for a number of other reasons....
...try to identify the reason and see if you can throw
some good facts to help you overcome this the next time
they look at your app...

I sent a letter to my regional admissions officer two weeks ago.
I have yet to receive a response.
::shrug:: Take it for what you will.

I would really advise you against sending a letter of desperation to the admissions office. The update form gives you all kinds of space and prompting to prove why you are a perfect fit for Stanford. Don't tell admissions the reasons you want to go to Stanford, but make it clear through your answers why Stanford might want you.
