Hey guys, my question is that I applied for a Biology Major. But on my acceptance letter it says that I am in the General Curriculum--BS degree. Is this just b/c you don't apply for a major until your junior year or was there something wrong on my application. Also what is the difference between getting a BS degree and majoring in Biology.

yea my app status says its in general BS degree... that's bs... grrr

did you apply for bio or another science?

Docintraining and Beramod, you recieived a notice of General Curriculum--BS degree, and that's what it should be. I applied for a genetics as well as a physics/astronomy major, and they also put that on my letter. First, look at how many sciences that UW offers. Biology could be broken down to biochem, biomolecular, genetics etc... So they will not declare your major-until your late sophomore or junior year. Always remember you are also not admitted to the program-(unless your doing a grad or doctorate or going to a school in England), but the university. In a university like Wisconsin, you don't begin your major until late sophomore or early junior year after you finish your intro classes. Then a prospective art major may even turn into a science major. I know a couple of my friends who doubled major at Wisconsin, or just changed their majors early (they didn't like it) and still graduated in 4 years. Good Luck and don't worry. The stress is gone :)

Thank you Swamifez. I am glad to hear that. That is what I thought but I wanted to be sure. Thanks a lot. I am really glad to hear that.

I had a 4.2 Weighted and 3.9 Unweighted, Didn't Take Sat II's Got a 1260 on my SAT (I have always been bad at taking tests), I don't know about the recs cause I didn't read them but I think they were strong, my extracurriculars were good, not the strongest and not the worst, but good or more properly adequate, I loved my essay. I think you have a really good chance if you are an international, but it will depend on what major you're going into and when you applied.
