Hi:)
If I decide to ignore my admission to Cal and UCLA, will this influence me in any way when i reapply for fall 2011? i want to reapply this Nov.

Also, I am planning to apply to a different major next year, will this affect my admission?

PS: Yes, I am thankful and honored to get admitted to these top schools but I may not be able to attend because of my family issues. . . please do not even bother to respond if you are going to disrespect my difficult sitaution!! :( my family is my first priority no matter what. and i'm sorry if i offended anyone by saying this.... anyways! Thank you!! :)

i’m not sure whether your admission will affect you when you re-apply, but if you’re applying to a different major you should have the pre-reqs done soon.

why don’t you ask to take a year off? Just SIR to the school you want to go to and take the time off to deal with family stuff. Reapplying can be dangerous.

Applying again won’t hurt your chances of getting in. As ciaokarol said, as long as you maintain your grades and fulfill prereqs, you should be fine to get into UCB and UCLA again. I admire your wherewithal to put family ahead of yourself. That is truly selfless; major props to you! :D.

sophee, how do you take theyear off? i was told that you cannot take more than a quarter/semester off. i heard that if u do this, u have to reapply anyways…

Applying again to get in depends on why you did get in. If the average GPA increases, and your GPA doesn’t, you could be screwed. Especially if you are thinking of changing your major to a more impacted one at both schools. However, if you’re going to be reapplying with the same info (say you have a high GPA for the major and all pre-reqs done), then you should be fine considering you’re taking a year off for a very honorable thing (and you could put that on next years app).

Still, I think it’s worthy of you to try to get the year postponed. I don’t know who told you that you cannot take more than a quarter/semester off. Was it the school? If it was the schools I would attempt to negotiate with them. If it is was not the schools, call the schools and figure out what you can do. I guess I just don’t see the point in going through the whooooole reapplication process and all the fears that come with it when you could simply secure a spot now. But, perhaps, the UCs don’t have a heart and it’s not possible…
