Yay! I'm really excited about this. Now, I have a question--I plan on becoming a biochem major, and I have AP Bio credit, which gets me out of BIOS 201 and 202. Are these considered "weeder" courses? I do not know much about weeders except that they are usually intro level classes. Does anyone know about this? Thanks, and I hope to see you at Rice.

I don't think they are really designed to weed people out, but if you have the credit, don't take it again - it's a waste of your time and money. Take the lab BIOS 211 and maybe 301/302.

Hey, ElectronicError!

I'm considering to attend Rice, too!!!! It's my current first choice...lol

Nice to meet you!! Where do u live? I'm from NJ

When I think of a "weeding" course, I think of pre-med. If you're pre-med and you start to get anything less than a B, you begin to rethink your decision to be pre-med. If you're not pre-med, you can generally just shrug it off. At Rice, like at most schools, Organic Chemistry is the "weeding" course. Intro. Bio is also difficult, but you should just skip over it.

Freshman year you'll wanna take Organic Chemistry if you have AP Chem credit and also Bios 211, the Bio lab. I wouldn't recommend thinking about Bios 301 (biochemistry) unless you've completed physics and calculus.

Hey, ElectronicError, Husky Sky !

i am planning on attending Rice Uni too!! just got admitted today and Rice is my first choice right now. i am an Indian from Hong Kong btw.
if you guys wanna talk on MSN or something... mine is chirag1987@hotmail.com ... feel free to add me :)

looking forward to meeting all of you at rice! woohoo

Congrats on your Rice acceptance letters everyone. I am from Houston and can assure you the campus is beautiful and you will get a great education!

Freshman@Rice,
if i'm gonna be pre-med, should I take the "big three" even though I have ap credit in bio, chem, physics b, and calc?

ElectronicError and all RD acceptances to Rice:

when did you get your acceptance letter?

I got mine in the mail Thursday, CgBalIU.

Hi Husky Sky and chirag! I'm from MA, and it's very nice to meet you.

Thanks for the advice jenskate1.

Freshman@Rice, unfortunately I don't have AP Chem credit. I guess that means I would take OChem as a sophmore and basic chem as a freshman?

Yeah, freshman@rice gave better advice than I did. Gen chem then Orgo sounds good to me...but talk it over with your advisor when you get here.
