I got into UCF. Now what?

I got into summer term and I'm so lost on what to do next.

I haven't paid the $200 yet (in a few days I will).

I have to:

-Send in resident verification (Is the only way is to mail it?)
-Sign up for orientation [How do I do that?]
Anything else?

Things I'm unsure about:
-Fiancial Aid. Is there a seperate fiancial aid form personally for the school I need to fill out? I did the FASFA on FAFSA - Free Application for Federal Student Aid
-The minimum of classes I can take for summer (3?)
-Browsing the classes [I can't view them on my.ucf.edu, is there another way to look at them?]

Hmm, I think I covered most of my worries so far. Geez, I thought it would be less stressful after getting into college, now I've opened up another can of worms. :(

This will only answer some of your questions, and hopefully someone else can answer the ones I don’t know (such as residency), but…
An additional thing you’ll have to do is send off an immunization form. [UCF Health Services](http://hs.ucf.edu/healthcenter/immunizations.html)

You can sign up for orientation here:
[UCF First Year Experience - (407) 823-5105](http://fye.ucf.edu/)

I don’t know of any way to browse the classes other than through MyUCF. You can always talk to an advisor though, and you’ll actually register on orientation day. If you have any doubts I would recommend talking to an advisor before orientation though, because my “advising” at orientation time was not very helpful.

I couldn’t find much information about the financial aid, but here is UCF’s comprehensive financial aid website, where maybe some of your questions are answered:
[Student Financial Assistance, UCF : Official Web site of the Office of Student Financial Assistance at the University of Central Florida.](http://finaid.ucf.edu/)

Good luck!

Thanks alot :)

Hi PrincessLPN – I am the mom of a sophomore at UCF. If you are definitely planning to attend, pay the $200 to secure your spot. Then, submit your residency form and health forms – go to the UCF website and search Residency Form and a PDF will pop up that you can fill out, print and then mail. (Actually, this should have been done on your application for admission.) The health forms are also online at UCF Health Service. As far as browsing classes on myUCF – it cannot be done until you register. So, sign up for ORIENTATION now – it is important to do it as soon as possible so that you have multiple dates to choose from. Orientation is for both you and your parents. It takes place over two days and you will get your UCF ID card and register. At that point, a portal will open up on your myUCF so you can browse courses. In the meantime, you can look at the UCF course catalog online – it is a huge PDF file. Or go to the UCF search box on the main website and choose your major – you should get a page detailing what courses are necessary. As far as the number of classes to take in the summer – only take TWO! There are no classes on Fridays and therefore the two classes are spread throughout 4 days. Sometimes quizzes and exams are given online and you may have work to do on the weekend depending upon what course you are taking. I suggest something fun like “History of Film” or “History of Rock and Roll” – yes, these are classes and count for Art/Humanities – which you need as an incoming freshman unless you had AP classes in Art History. The other class should be something meatier in your major – either a math course, or language, or science. Here’s the UCF Orientation website: [UCF First Year Experience - (407) 823-5105](http://fye.ucf.edu/)

The other thing you need to do is choose your dorm/housing – if you plan to live on campus and want a single room in a 4 bedroom/2 bath – try Lake Claire. This dorm is centrally located and an easy walk to classes and food. As far as eating, Knightros - located by the Towers - will be open. The Marketplace will be under renovations.

As far as financial aid is concerned – if you live in Florida, you should have also applied for Bright Futures as well as FAFSA. You will receive emails from both updating your status and once you’ve committed to a school, both FAFSA and Bright Futures will be linked to your myUCF. You can always call the financial aid office or stop by during orientation.

Another link to look at on the UCF website is the campus dish:

[Welcome to CampusDish at the University of Central Florida!](http://www.campusdish.com/en-US/CSS/UnivCentralFlorida)

This is where you can purchase your meal plan – the summer data is not up on line yet, but it will be by mid-April. The meal plan people will also be available at Orientation. You may also want to consider opening a bank account at the local SunTrust on campus so that you can draw cash from a local source – speak to your parents about that. Your UCF ID card is multi-purpose – it will function as your meal plan card, bank card, entry card to some dorms, laundry machine card, etc. This will be explained to you at Orientation.

One more thing – start shopping now for twin size xl bedding – unless you live in Towers (which has full size beds) – Target and Bed Bath and Beyond carry this at reasonable prices.

Hope this helps – and good luck at UCF – you’ll love it!

P.S. Be sure to see the recreation bldg. – and the rock climbing wall.

Wow that’s really helpful, thanks alot!

Well I paid the $200 and registered for orientation. Only 2 classes? Okay   :D

The dorm/housing thing isn’t an issue for me as I’ll be living with my parents :P

Yes, only two classes – unless your are a superstar student and want to go ballistic. The advisors during orientation will also tell you to take two classes as this is your first time on campus and you are also having to get used to getting around, knowing where things are, etc. If you are going to live at home, then you might only want to look at Dining Dollars which can be added in, I believe, $100 increments to your UCF ID card. That way, when you are on campus, you’ll have funds for lunch. Dining Dollars work out slightly cheaper than cash and it is more convenient. Also, be sure to apply for a parking permit. That is also online (UCF Parking) – you apply and pay online and then go to campus to pick up the permit. It is good to do this in advance so you have less to hassle with the first day.

After orientation/registration, there will be a link on your myUCF page to purchase your books. Whatever classes you register for – the books automatically come up on the purchase page. You pay for them online, and then pick them up at the UCF bookstore. Books are also available at off campus locations, but the convenience of buying online and then going to the UCF bookstore can’t be beat. Try to buy used books, if possible – you’ll save money.

Good luck and have fun this summer.

If you accept Summer term and find you will need a loan to help pay, fill out the 2009-2010 FAFSA. D did this last year and it helped offset the cost of Summer tutition.

Good luck and enjoy your Summer term. D loved it last year and it was a great way to meet new kids and get situated on campus before the big Fall rush of students.

When I started at UCF last year, I noticed a bunch of students wearing multi-colored glasses with [url=http://www.collegestack.com]www.collegestack.com[/url] on them. So I checked it out and found that it’s geared towards incoming students… The site has everything from a roommate finder, to housing and restaurants and a whole lot more. They call themselves the big brother on campus, and they definitely help you get into the environment quicker than if you did it on your own.

Definitely check it out if you’re planning on attending UCF. It’s [url=http://www.collegestack.com]www.collegestack.com[/url]

Do you have to pay the $200 fee before you can sign up for oreintation?

Your tuition deposit must be paid before registering for orientation.

Aventuramom did a great job covering all the bases but I’ll just clear something up that you may have misunderstood PrincessLPN. You may have confused the minimum number of classes you need to take with the minimum number of CREDIT HOURS that you need to take. The minimum number of credit hours is three, which is equivalent to one class. Three classes, on average, will be nine credit hours, which can be quite the work load for your first summer term in college. Taking three classes in the summer is actually the maximum they will allow. That’s why aventuramom suggested only two classes, aka six credit hours. That would be the ideal amount.
