i got into UMich of waitlist HELP ME i dunno wat to do

I am in a HUGE dilemma. I got into Michigan Ann Arbor off the waitlist. My problem is…I’m planning on attending Wisconsin. I am in the best dorm at Wisc and met a lot of friends and actually seen Wisc (I’ve never seen Michigan). Originally, Michigan was my dream school but after I got waitlisted I thought I would NEVER get off the waitlist or at least get off it in June when it would be too late. When I went to Wisconsin last month, I absolutely loved it. If I go to Mich it might be too late to get into the best dorms, the classes I want and to get rid of my lease for Statesider dorm at Wisconsin (a binding contract). I am planning on being a business major but as of right now I’m Undecided at both LSA at Michigan and Letters and Sciences at Wisconsin. I don’t know if I’ll be too stressed if I go to Michigan and if I can even get into Ross. I felt that it would be too compeititve and be a small fish in a big sea. What does everyone think? I need to make up my mind FAST, put it that way.

I'd tell you to go to to Wisconsin. It's a good school too, and you obviously love it. Don't make yourself unhappy wondering "what if?" If you are really unhappy, you can always try transferring.

If you really are curious, though, visit U of M and see what you think.

Why on earth would you let a dorm be central to your decision? You have a whole life ahead of you. I don't know how Wisconsin ranks for business, but Ross will probably give you more options.

You're not that much of a bigger fish at UW, which isn't that much of a smaller pond as well in comparison with Michigan. They're both great schools. Check out Michigan and see if you like it as much. Wisconsin has a nicer campus (one of the most beautiful in the midwest), but UofM is a slightly better school.

Are you paying in-state tuition at UW? If so, it seems like a no-brainer...

If you have time, I think you should definitely visit Michigan. Wisconsin and Michigan are close enough in terms of education that the decision should come down to whichever school you would be happiest at- and there's no denying that having your choice of dorms and the class schecule you want for freshman year would certainly help. Anyway, it sounds like you are really attached to UW, don't let Michigan's ranking let you lose sight of that. Good luck with your decision!

I think you should stay at Wisconsin, wisco is a great school and you said you love it and have already settled yourself in. It would be one thing if you are a direct admit to ross but you're not so you would have to go to michigan and perhaps not get into ross because it's so competitive. Wisconsin is a great school and you seem to already have started a great quality of life going there. Go to Wisco.

Yea, go to Wisconsin.

Go to wisconsin.

As I have weighed in through other threads, I think the answer is clear for Wisconsin. In the sprit of an informed decision, you should visit Michigan though. I think you ought to remember a few key things.

Although Michigan has a slightly higher ranking at the UG level, it is rather marginal. It's going to be more of what you did AT the school, rather than what school you attended. This isn't a comparison of Harvard to Iowa State.

Madison and Ann Arbor are very similiar towns, with Madison being slightly larger, a capital, and has two lakes. Ann Arbor is closer to Detroit (for what it is worth) and Wisconsin is about a 2+ hr drive to Chicago, an hour+ to Milwaukee.

For business, Ross is no doubt one of the best in the world. At the UG level, Wisconsin ranks 12 (I think), and has nearly the same reported salary. Grainger, where UW-Madison business classes are held is a beautiful building and a high GPA will get you many job offers (which I'm sure you know about if you did your homework). I do agree though, getting into Ross will not be a walk in the park, but you need about a 3.4 to get into the business school @ Madison, so that is no auto-admit statistic.

What swayed me, and I'm slightly different because I'm in two more generic majors (poli sci/comm) with an intent to go to law school, is that 40K I'm saving at Wisconsin. I just couldn't justify it.

If you want to graduate in 4 years, you're going to need to get in the classes you need ... seems like you might already be a semester behind if you are heading off to AA.
