they can't do that can they? I thought they couldn't technically say you're admitted until the 1st, and that seems to be a very strong implication, even more so than the actual likely letter

btw zante if you weren't aware of it senior member is the highest level it goes as far as the post count is concerned

lol no I kind of realized that after nothing happened at 2,000...3,000 and 4,000...haha
I'm not really posting for the post count; I HOPE most people don't think my posts are just useless post-count grubbing.

oh i'm not just post grubbing! I was just informing you since the mods said so today in the community forum, so I thought you should know. :p

No lol I wasn't accusing you of post grubbing; I was saying that I hope people still take my posts as seriously...

I've been lurking for a while and was also suspicious of the "likely" letter, but my son got one today. So, the letters have been sent. Hope you get one also.

AnotherMom2009 -- Could you please tell us when your son submitted his application?

Do you guys think squeezing the application in under the deadline precludes reception of such a letter?

His high school counselor sent in his application in late December - just before the deadline. I really don't know if there is any rhyme or reason to how the admissions system works.

Good luck to everyone. This is a very stressful time for all of us. I must admit the letter has relieved a LOT of stresss in our family.

Congratulations drdomuch! You've earned it!

do they send such letters to US cits overseas / int'ls ?

YIPPEE!!! Just got my likely letter today! I'm SHOCKED! I didn't think I'd have all these decisions to make already.

Did the likely letter involve (1) status as a recruited athlete, or (2) URM status, or (3) having very high SAT score?

Why do you think you (or yours) was singled out for a likely letter?

what does the likely letter say?

"Dear xxx,
Congratulations!"

Letter continues for two pages. Not an athlete, not URM status, but amazing SAT scores.

My SAT is 1590, I am an athlete, but not a URM.

But they must get so many applicants with high SAT scores...there must have been other things that stood out (maybe a really good essay, ECs, etc)...
I don't understand this likely letter business at all, but I am so jealous!

Congrats you guys!

I'm with you Zant. It's one thing when students hear early because they've applied EA, but it's another thing when you've all applied RD and are waiting until April 1st and then some extremely lucky person finds out waaay ahead of time. It's a little tough to think that a few fortunate ones get released from all the stress of waiting while everyone else has to slog on. Especially because the colleges don't really make it clear from the start that some people will be exempted from the waiting. Lucky likely letter receivers!

Sorry about the harshness in my post on your likely letter page...its just that 2 or 3 other people had created threads about them recieving likely letters, and many inconsitencies appeared as their posts went on. I wouldn't hate on another black dude getting in to yale lolzors my bad about that. Kind of a knee-jerk reaction on my part, thats my bad, hope we can still be friends lol. Good luck - and i hope you choose harvard haha (I know youre watching Byerly lolll)
ok hope we can be friends peace

CONGRATS to all who received the likely letter! okay, so i'm just gonna create my own college. i'm so fed up with the whole system. i mean ivies and other prestigious institutions are top notch and mostly deserve their reputation but it's bs that we have to wait so long. if i do get into all these schools that i applied to (v. unlikely for numerous reasons), i can't wait to turn the tables on them.

It's cool, ethioman. (hand shake) lol
